Description:The purpose of the Aramark J-1 Culinary intern program is to provide interns with experiential education in the areas of food preparation and sanitation, and increase their proficiency in basic kitchen techniques such as saut\u00e9ing and grilling.
\u2022Follow the training plan assigned by sponsor\u2022Follows recipes and cooking procedures as directed by Executive Chef\u2022Learning oven and grill stations and learning proper method of production using these devices\u2022Assisting with keeping the line stocked\u2022Basic knife skills \u2022Checks for color coordination and eye appeal of all food items, both hot and cold, using appropriate garnishes where practical\u2022Follows proper serving methods, including serving correct portion sizes\u2022Sees that menu board is completed and proper terms are used for all food items\u2022Break-down and cleaning of various stations\u2022Assist in preparing employee meals\u2022Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, emergencies and energy\u2022Report to work on time and in complete uniform\u2022Other duties as assigned
Status, Scope and Objectives:\u2022Reports directly to Executive Chef or Kitchen Supervisor\u2022Performance will be evaluated at the end of the program\u2022Receive a detailed overview of the food preparation standards of the company and learn how to prepare food successfully and efficiently\u2022Introduction to events, including logistics, food service, food preparation and the importance of timing within the culinary/special events industry\u2022Producing meals, a la carte items, and desserts successfully and efficiently \u2022Keeping the work station clean and organized during food production \u2022Working as part of a team
Equipment Used:Oven, Mixer, Grill, Steamer, Calculator, Dishwasher, Cutlery, Telephone, Chef Knives
High School education or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum one-year prep work or food service related work preferred.
Knowledge of food prep, proper knife handling, temperature control, and sanitation is helpful
Must be able to read and write to facilitate proper communication with others.
Mathematical ability required.\u00a0 Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations.
Must maintain security clearance.
