Job Title Industrial Designer II Job ID(Requisition ID): 3221 Job Summary Benchmark is looking for a passionate and highly collaborative Industrial Designer to join our ID Team in Rochester, MN. We are in search of an Industrial Designer with an outstanding design portfolio and deep experience in Product Design, User Interface Design, Presentation Design, and User Experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about designing next-generation products and comfortable tackling all aspects of the design process including: user research, physical and digital prototyping, working with external suppliers to ensure design intent is well communicated and that component quality expectations are met, and telling a project story to the key stakeholders within the business group. Essential Functions and Competencies With direction, develop specifications through collection, analysis and synthesis of data guided by the special requirements of the client and/or project Participate in Design Reviews; Provide information related to requirements Ensure all appropriate Human Factors standards are properly applied and adhered to throughout design cycle Generate detail design for large and small products for a variety of industries Perform functional, color, form and market trend analyses Develop and/or ensure consistent brand image usage Present appropriate project progress and status to customers and senior management staff Generate materials for bid activities, including research, drawings, task hour estimates and assistance in preparing final proposal for delivery to customer Provide Marketing support through website content development, presentations, booklets, sales promotion materials, exhibits, packaging and other related services Maintain Industrial Design reference library Participate in a continuous improvement activity with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format Develop concepts and specifications at an intermediate level through collection, analysis and synthesis of data guided by the special requirements of the client and/or project Participate in Design Reviews; Provide information related to requirements and recommend appropriate solutions with leadership guidance Generate conceptual and detail designs for large and small products for a variety of industries Research topics related to Industrial Design and HF requirements Qualifications / Education / Experience Demonstrate an understanding of various technologies; Will demonstrate an area of knowledge in at least one of the following areas: human factors, artistic design and medical product environment Demonstrate a strong sense of aesthetics in the use of color, form and textures, both 3-dimensionally (product design) and 2-dimensionally (graphic design) Demonstrate a basic knowledge of material and color specification, tooling and fabrication techniques, including: plastic injection molding, structural foam, vacuum forming, model-making, sheet metal construction, stainless steel working, plating, die-casting, in mold design, powder coating and painting techniques, stereo lithography, urethane casting, laser etching, photo etching, investment casting and other methodologies as dictated by projects Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Human Factors Engineering skills, such as interface design and anthropometrics and their application to ergonomic user centered design; Knowledge of existing human factors engineering standards Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of design trends Demonstrate an understanding of Use Centered Design principles and the ability to respond to and develop ergonomic design criteria Effective organization, prioritization skills and interpersonal skills Proven ability to complete projects in a timely manner Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required Demonstrate discretion, confidentiality, independent judgment and professionalism when representing the company Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as presentation skills Ability to work well individually or in teams Require supervision for completion of tasks Ability to work effectively with suppliers, including printers, or customers Understanding of and ability to use continuous improvement tools Available for travel up to 25% of the time, including day, overnight and international travel as required 5 years design experience 4 year industrial design or technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management.
