Position Summary

The selected applicant

would be responsible for managing and providing leadership to the database team. You would manage a diverse team of employees and contingent workers responsible for 24x7 production support of Duke Energy's Enterprise database environment.


Managing technical support staff and external vendors, insuring standard processes and procedures are followed

Provide high-level coordination of problem resolution

Managing and coordinating the identification , resolution and root-cause analysis of issues

Establish and enforce best practices in compliance with Duke Energy Standards for

database environments

Translate high-level Duke Energy IT Operations goals into detailed technical tasks and objectives

Oversee staff scheduling, projects, performance and training

Actively participate in Change Management to insure all changes

have been tested, documented and approved prior to implementation

Keeping abreast of the latest technology and making recommendations for improvements and future direction

Participate in a 24x7 Database Manager On-call support rotation

Developing highly effective employees

Motivate employees to perform at their highest level by serving as a role model.

Develop employees to be future leaders within the company

Act as a mentor for new hires throughout the IT organization

Encourage staff to be innovation, customer focused, willing to take appropriate risk, take initiative and ownership

Hire database management employees and contingent workers

Working Conditions

Must sit in Charlotte, NC

10% Travel

Basic/Required Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, BS Degree in Business (MIS) or related discipline; OR eight (8) years of IT related experience in lieu of the degree

Four (4) or more years in information technology or directly related field in addition to a degree

Desired Qualifications

Excellent communication skills and inter-personal skills

Demonstrated leadership ability

Comprehensive knowledge of relational databases and customer data

Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Ability to effectively influence and negotiate

Ability to integrate multiple IT processes

, functions and systems


and willingness to work in an energetic, fast-paced and team-oriented Agile environment

Ability to analyze business problems and opportunities

Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, strong organizational skills, and ability to analyze business problems and opportunities

Experience in large 24x7 production IT operations


with designing and delivering SQL and/or Oracle databases in support of major applications, including large database environments

Experience wit tools utilized in the design, support, backup and restoring database environments

Experience with Agile team environment
