IT Communications & Engagement Manager

The IT Communications and Engagement Manager will be responsible for developing and executing both internal and external communications strategies related to RRD’s technology products, services and offerings. Additionally, the person that assumes this role will be responsible for utilizing communications to increase employee engagement within the IT organization, including leading and executing culture-change initiatives. S/he will report directly to RRD’s Executive Vice President/Chief Information Officer, and will work closely with the IT leadership team, as well as leaders and communications and marketing professionals throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to work across teams and at all levels of the organization to promote the agenda and objectives of the IT organization. He/she will be a self-starter that is able to work independently and think creatively -- continually thinking of new initiatives that will move the needle to further improve and enhance IT communications, and furthermore, the culture of the IT organization. He/she will have the ability to form close business relationships through active listening and engagement, and to build consensus to lead change.

Primary responsibilities:

Internal Communications:

Ongoing management of Corporate IT’s internal communications platform, including drafting and distribution of weekly newsletter containing relevant content from across the IT organization.

Drafting memos from EVP/CIO to global IT organization.

Creating the communications strategy for all IT-related events and promoting those events through strategic communications on the Corporate IT communications portal, and then managing the event registration process through that same portal.

Managing Corporate IT communications to the enterprise, including managing the Corporate IT presence on the corporate intranet, and participation in/contributions to broader corporate communications initiatives.

Developing and executing communications strategies for IT initiatives that impact employees and therefore require change management communications.

Drafting and obtaining approvals for urgent IT-related communications, such as major systems outages and IT security/governance-related issues.

Speaking Engagements, PR, Media Relations:

Preparing EVP/CIO for participation in conferences and events, including drafting talking points, preparing PowerPoint slides, and working with conference/event coordinators to ensure that all logistics (registration, photo and bio for website, stage setup, etc.) are in order prior to any event.

Liaising with RRD’s PR firm to identify key opportunities to promote RRD as a leading technology company, and preparing the EVP/CIO for any media opportunities that arise.

Seeking out and applying for technology awards that will bring additional visibility to RRD.


Fielding all IT-related questions that come in through the website and directing them to the appropriate IT lead.

Assembling and analyzing information, preparing reports, manuals, agendas, correspondence and memoranda.

Producing graphics and PowerPoint slides used by Executive Management for presentations to Industry and business groups, and for internal communication.

Answering mail and inquiries on behalf of the EVP/CIO using own initiative, follow up with other departments to ensure that requests are carried out.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field.

Outstanding writing, editing and oral communication skills. Must also have strong organizational skills with ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload.

Experience managing communication projects or initiatives with demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task and be flexible with changing priorities, demands, and requests.

Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)

Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to lead strategic communications plans from initial development through completion.

Possess the ability to translate complex technical concepts into easily understood business language.

Demonstrated ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to find, identify and develop stories with external public relations value.

Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, collaborative, working relationships across all levels of the organization, including senior management.

Demonstrated ability to succeed and thrive in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

Experience in Information Technology, and the ability to translate technical jargon into business language.

Change management experience and the ability to develop communications plans and tools to engage and inform employees during a time of transformative change.
