Job Description

IT Applications Manager

AK Steel is seeking an IT Applications Manager to be responsible and accountable for planning, coordinating, and overseeing projects and tasks within multiple legacy applications in the areas of manufacturing and supply chain. This person would lead a staff of IT professionals responsible to support and enhance current systems as well as develop new applications. They would need to be familiar with agile methodologies and how to incorporate them within their teams and business areas. This hands-on position will report to our Corporate IT Applications Manager and be part of applications management group.

Responsibilities & Required Skills:

Able to quickly grasp both technology and business concepts in an ever changing environment.

Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies and procedures.

Act in alignment with user needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational needs.

Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions in a timely manner.

Manage by training and coaching team members, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance.

Involvement in managing outsourced and off shore resources while optimizing throughput and quality results.

Use current knowledge of business and technology to recommend systems and process improvements.

Works directly with stakeholders, process specialists, and users to elicit and surface the unarticulated need.

Experience in gathering requirements using interviews, document analysis, scenarios, business analysis, and task and workflow analysis.

Understanding and experience in Agile Methodologies and common practices especially with scrums and sprints.

Knowledge and understanding of mainframe, VMS and web based systems and architecture.

Ability to build relationships with team members, peers, leaders, and key individuals.

Display personal characteristics such as self-motivation, dependability, confidence, trust, and flexibility.

Demonstrate collaboration skills to foster effective working relationships with the team and customers.

Contribute to the strategy and architecture of IT and applications.

Success with effecting business transformation and culture change.

Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Business (MIS) or related discipline.

10 years of experience in Information Technology within a manufacturing organization.

5 years of experience in IT management/team lead.

2 years of experience in project management and common methodologies.

2 years in practicing agile techniques.
