As a member of the Health, Environment, and Safety Division, this position provides hazardous waste support and regulatory guidance to refinery operations and maintenance. This includes implementation of any new hazardous waste rules and regulations, accompanying inspectors during agency inspections, providing guidance to comply with the RCRA Permit, and gathering of information from the field to complete agency reports. The position calls for an individual who can interact with Management, Staff, and represented refinery field personnel, and who works well in a team environment. In addition, the successful candidate has strong verbal and written communication skills, has the ability to work in both the office and field locations, can interpret hazardous waste regulations and apply to a refinery operation, possess organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize activities to meet compliance deadlines, and keen analytical skills to solve problems and/or identify alternatives.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Generate waste data related to BWON, TRI and Air Emissions reports.

Characterization of waste and profiling to appropriate and approved TSDFs

Generate and maintain various waste permits including associated plans, certifications and recordkeeping tasks to maintain regulatory compliance.

Submit various facility waste reports such as Annual Facility Report/Biennial Report and internal corporate waste reports.

Communicate effectively with regulatory agencies such as DTSC, EPA and CUPA regarding operational processes and data/recordkeeping associated with waste.

Escort, oversee and report out on agency inspections.

Give guidance to the field to effectively comply with conditions in the Refinery's RCRA permit; actively participate in the implementation of any changes to the RCRA permit.

Assist in investigation of environmental incidents, preparation of reports, and processing of RCRA permit applications.

Compliance field audits and compliance documentation reviews.

Participate as member of a rotational Community Monitoring On Call for one week at a time.

Assist in developing tools or processes to ensure long-term compliance.

Provide hazardous waste regulatory training to refinery personnel.

Managing time sensitive correspondence.

Responsible for refinery spill and release reporting.

SME for various DTSC and/or EPA rules/regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Science related discipline.

Minimum 3 years Health, Environment, and Safety experience.

Job requires driving on a routine basis

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years' experience implementing California and Federal Hazardous Waste Regulations and development of required compliance reporting.

Active Title 22, DOT and RCRA Certifications.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in a refinery and/or petrochemical industry, HAZWOPER, or other environmental training certifications.
