Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

Our Mechanical Global Supply Chain Management team is responsible for the supplier selection, manufacturing development execution, negotiations and production of differentiated and unique mechanical enclosure parts. Google is well known for the creation and development of innovative software and hardware solutions and as such, the management of the supply chain is required to be equally unique, innovative and specialized.

The team must be able to innovate not only our products, but also the business processes by which we accomplish our objectives. The complicated balance between the need to achieve ground breaking mechanical developments and business execution creates challenges that drive processes that require a bridge from engineering risk to manufacturing capability to business needs. This requires interactions with the executive teams of both Google and the entire supply base.

For the soft module GSM role specifically, we are looking for someone who would be focus on soft goods development and process integration with cross-functional teams, and soft goods supply chain management including cost, supply and contracts.

Identify, develop, negotiate and manage existing and further development of various textile and soft goods suppliers.

Provide on-site management of enclosure manufacturing partners to manage the development builds, risk mitigation and ramp. Work closely with industrial designers and product designers to develop textile fulfill design concept.

Evaluate technical and business risks using data based analysis and develop sound risk mitigation alternatives. Provide cross-functional support with industrial design, development and operations.

Perform cost modeling, consultation, and actioning of part and assembly cost strategy. Schedule capacity and supply planning to meet production demands.


Minimum qualifications:

BA/BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience in procurement and product launches for soft goods related mechanical components, tooling, and fixtures.

Experience in the following: mechanical development, manufacturing process development, soft good supply chain development, CNC machined parts, die cast, MIM, stamping, fixtures, injection molding, and gaskets.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in working and collaborating cross-functionally with industrial design, development, legal and operations teams.

Knowledge in product development, manufacturing and supply chain management.

Experience in working in multinational environments.

Excellent project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
