Program Description

The company, headquartered in Akron, Ohio, is looking for talented leaders to significantly strengthen its global leadership depth and play an integral role in the current and future success of the organization. Global Communications helps Goodyear achieve its business objectives by developing and executing communications strategies to inform, engage and influence our internal and external stakeholders. We work together as one team to advance and protect Goodyear's corporate reputation and to drive awareness of Goodyear brands. We are committed to building the capabilities of our team while delivering results for our clients and the company. The selected intern candidate will help Goodyear achieve its business objectives by supporting the development and execution of communications strategies to inform, engage and influence internal stakeholders.

In addition to challenging, engaging and interesting work assignments, students have the opportunity to meet and interact with students from other universities at work and outside of work. Tours of Goodyear facilities are arranged to help students learn more about the business. Goodyear leaders make presentations to help students begin to think about significant business issues and career options. Students even have the opportunity to network with the Goodyear Senior Leadership Team.

Interns Can Expect To...

Develop relationships with key business teams as they research projects and write, edit and publish content for GO News and other internal media platforms

Collaborate on campaigns with internal and external communicators at corporate headquarters and within the strategic business units: the Americas; Europe, Middle East & Africa; and Asia Pacific

Assist in community management, campaign development/execution and content curation using Goodyear's internal enterprise social media network

Support Goodyear's Akron-based community engagement initiatives, including the annual United Way campaign

Work with multiple online content management systems daily

Monitor, collect and report on metrics for GO and Goodyear's enterprise social media network

Support the development of e-newsletters and two-way communication tools

Design graphics for GO, digital signs, social media and print materials

Be challenged creatively and professionally

Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or a related field.

Successful candidates should have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Superior writing and editing skills; strong knowledge of Associated Press Style.

Strong story-telling capabilities.

Completed upper-level writing courses.

Previous internship experience or a history of writing for a student newspaper or credible online publication (blog or social media site, etc.).

Excellent organization skills -- ability to multi-task, completing several projects and assignments simultaneously.

Helpful to have...

Understanding of business and interest in the auto or rubber industries

Experience creating infographics and other multimedia communication elements

Experience preparing and posting content to websites and social media platforms

Public relations or communications planning experience.

Knowledge of Google Analytics

Graphic design capabilities

Company Profile:
Looking back, the founding of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1898 seems especially remarkable, for the beginning was anything but auspicious. The 38-year-old founder, Frank A. Seiberling, purchased the company’s first plant with a $3,500 down payment -- using money he borrowed from a brother-in-law Lucius C. Miles. The rubber and cotton that were the lifeblood of the industry had to be transported from halfway around the world, to a landlocked town that had only limited rail transportation. Even the man the company’s name memorialized, Charles Goodyear, had died penniless 30 years earlier despite his discovery of vulcanization after a long and courageous search.
