Financial SpecialistPlant Gaston - Wilsonville, AL Summary of Position Duties Coordinate, monitor and support all accounting activities at Plant Gaston including the budgeting process for capital and O&M expenditures, assist in the operational business process, analysis of cost, and associated functions, to ensure accuracy and consistency in a manner useful for decision making by management.  Monitor the status of proposed budget forecasts to keep plant personnel advised concerning expenditures.  Coordinate with other members of the organization to project future expenditures and meet budget goals.  Assist with Financial Compliance self-assessments and procedural audits.  Perform financial transactions in a manner consistent with Chapter IV and ensure compliance with internal controls.  Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to strengthen the accounting program and ensure other plant personnel are involved in the accounting process.  Participate on committees as assigned and undertake special projects within guidelines to ensure plant accounting activities are accomplished properly. JOB REQUIREMENTS:4-year degree in accounting, finance or business is preferredAccounting experience within the Company is preferredProficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint)General plant operation knowledge preferredAbility to plan and complete major accounting projectsWorking knowledge of Financial Applications highly desired (PowerPlant, SOFIA, BUDWORKS, Maximo, RBNI, AVI, Oracle, SSAT) JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:  (Major responsibilities of the job)Coordinate the financial activities at the plant including O&M and Capital budgets, operational business plans, transfers, CJO process, staged inventory, accruals, and other associated functions to ensure accuracy and consistency.Monitor the status of proposed budget forecasts to keep plant personnel advised concerning cash flows and other expenditures.Provide financial information and prepare cost benefit analyses for the Operating Company and Generation management for use in strategic decision making and the development of the Company's Financial Model.Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act and compliance requirements.Ability to work independently, managing multiple tasks and changing priorities.Prepare reports to inform plant management of the financial status of the plant.Assist Team Leader – Financial Compliance with self-assessments and other in-house audits OTHER ATTRIBUTESModel Southern Style-Must be able to model and exhibit Unquestionable Trust, Superior Performance, and Total Commitment. Embrace Target ZeroAnalytical skillsInterpersonal skillsOrganizational skillsAbility to teach and train others in various roles on budget and accounting issuesExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionManage multiple projects and tasks with changing prioritiesHandle confidential and sensitive information appropriatelyProblem solving and decision makingAbility to plan and complete major accounting projects Alabama Power provides the valuable combination of competitive prices, reliable electricity supply and unparalleled service to 1.4 million homes, businesses and industries in the southern two-thirds of Alabama.Southern Company (NYSE: SO) is America's premier energy company, with 44,000 megawatts of generating capacity and 1,500 billion cubic feet of combined natural gas consumption and throughput volume serving 9 million electric and gas utility customers through its subsidiaries.
