The Financial Modeling Group (FMG) is a diverse and global team with a keen interest and expertise in all things related to technology and financial analytics. The group is responsible for the research and development of quantitative financial models and tools across many different areas – single-security pricing, prepayment models, risk, return attribution, optimization and portfolio construction, scenario analysis, etc. – and covering all asset classes. The group is also responsible for the technology platform that delivers those models to our internal and external clients, and their integration with Aladdin (see below). FMG conducts leading research on the areas above, delivering state-of-the-art models. FMG publishes applied scientific research frequently, and our members present regularly at leading industry conferences.

What is Aladdin?

The Aladdin® product unites the information, people, and technology needed to manage money in real time at every step in the investment process. Aladdin combines sophisticated risk analytics with comprehensive portfolio management, trading and operations tools on a single platform to power informed decision-making and create a connective tissue for many thousands of users across hundreds of clients, including BlackRock and many of the largest asset owners and asset managers around the world.

Job Purpose / Background

As a project manager for model governance and surveillance, you will provide strategic and operational support for the modeling lifecycle within FMG. This includes driving projects to improve the team’s approach to various aspects of the modeling lifecycle – including documentation, validation, deployment, and surveillance – as well as coordinating with the group’s model approval committee and ensuring compliance with the firm’s Model Risk Policy. This will be done in partnership with the group’s Business Manager, coordinating with modelers and developers across FMG as well as with key partners across the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

Model Surveillance: Coordinate new and improved frameworks for model performance monitoring across each model family – partnering with each FMG team to develop and implement technology for monitoring and logging model performance

Model Documentation: Maintain the library of documentation owned by FMG modelers, including reviewing/editing for content, style, and format, and preparing for publication to clients

Model Validation: Coordinate and help support model validation requests from Aladdin clients

Governance Automation: Liaise with the firm’s Model Risk Management group on designing, testing, and implementing automated model governance tools

Testing/Deployment Coordination: Work with partner teams to streamline model testing & deployment processes

Procedures: Maintain and implement FMG’s Model Risk Management Procedures, ensuring compliance with the firm’s Model Risk Policy

Committee Coordination: Operational ownership of the group’s Financial Model Approval Committee (agenda; materials; minutes; etc.)

 ','!*!Experience/ Qualifications:

Familiarity with various types of financial models and analytics (such as value-at-risk, mortgage forecasting, and security valuation)

Financial/mathematical aptitude to learn the workings of individual models

Technical proficiency; ability to understand how technology and data structures interoperate

Programming experience preferred

Strong organizational, problem-solving and project planning skills, including the ability to multi-task, with attention to detail

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to edit technical text for style and grammar

Some experience in financial services industry preferred (1-5 years)
