The executive director leads the strategy and management of PPG global community engagement activities, including grantmaking and volunteer activities through the PPG Foundation in the U.S., the Global Charitable Contributions program across five global regions, and the Colorful Communities program.

Responsibilities:

Grants Management - Operations

Develop and enforce community engagement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and programmatic guidelines

Serve as Officer of the PPG Foundation; ensure that the Foundation is complying with local, state and federal laws.

Oversee filing of all tax and other forms to qualify Foundation for exemptions and deductions, in coordination with the corporate tax department of PPG

Serve as a member of the Foundation Investment Committee that has responsibility for managing the investment portfolio of the Foundation

Oversee process to collect unreported contributions

Develop budget and allocation of $9 million budget; maintain financial control procedures in coordination with the corporate accounting department of PPG

Generate new and innovative ideas to transform key areas of responsibility, looking at ways to elevate them to another level

Grow the strengths and breadth of team

Grants Management - Grantmaking

Manage grantmaking process from PPG Foundation (from due diligence to pay out)

Corporate grants

Pittsburgh grants

Foundation Agent grants

Industry Related grants

Employee program grants (GIVE and Matching Gifts)

Innovative classroom grants

College Relations grants

Science and Technology grants

Oversee execution of Global Charitable Contributions in Asia Pacific, EMEA, Central America, Latin America, and Canada

Evaluate and provides funding recommendations for all global grants

Manage the due diligence process, including internal and on-line compliance

Evaluate and recommend company contributions through Educational Improvement Tax Credit program

Oversee and manage relationship with grants management vendor Good Done Great

Internal Relationship Management

Provide leadership and training for Foundation Agents nationally (~35)

Ongoing communications with Global Contributions Chairs

HQ Community Relations

Maintain positive opinion in HQ community via continued cultivation of relationships with Pittsburgh-based charitable organizations and grantee partners

Develop and manage large partnerships, including coordination of special events, partnership activation through strategic communications, etc.

Carnegie Science Center – PPG Science Pavilion sponsorship

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Children’s Museum

Represent PPG as the philanthropic leader in the non-profit community with key organizations such as the United Way and Allegheny Conference, with peers and with city and county government.

Program and Partner Management

Develop overall growth strategy for community engagement

Lead strategy and manage execution of global Colorful Communities program

Creation of policies and procedures

Oversight of all global projects

Development of internal and external communications

Monitoring of tracking and measurement system

Development of new program elements (e.g., annual award)

Manage strategic visioning process for STEM education; integrate results into strategy

Maintain relationships with strategic grantee partners across key PPG sites

Consider, initiate and negotiate new partnership opportunities

Coordinate annual National Merit Scholarship program, including special events

Management of disaster relief funding strategy and PPG CARE Fund

Manage communication and ongoing strategy for employee programs (Matching Gifts, GIVE, Volunteer Time Off, and Innovative Classroom Grants)

Oversee Charity Partner program in EMEA

Senior Executive Relationship Management

Counsel and coordinate executive participation on nonprofit boards

Manage executive budget for Dinners & Events

Prepare and present at bi-annual Foundation Board and Global Charitable Contributions Committee meetings

Prepare the annual report of global Community Engagement activities to PPG’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors

Ongoing communications to share community engagement strategy and milestones

Communications

Position community engagement activities around the world to support PPG’s mission to protect and beautify the world

Develop annual communications plan for community engagement in partnership with corporate team and global regions (leveraging all key internal and external PPG channels)

Drive media relations activities highlighting all of PPG’s global community engagement initiatives and giving

Assure regular internal coverage of this important area

Drive and oversee execution of communications across internal teams to ensure alignment with the brand

Represent PPG community engagement as spokesperson

Serves as central source of community engagement information for employees, financial professionals, media and community organizations; actively present and share information internally to raise awareness of PPG’s community engagement activities

Develop the community engagement content and strategy for PPG’s global sustainability and community engagement reports and other various communications vehicles

Leverage social media to generate interest about PPG, helping to position PPG as leaders in the corporate community engagement area

Maintain up-to-date community engagement information through community engagement website

Serve as Chair of Global Community Engagement Council

Qualifications

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

Previous foundation/nonprofit experience and expertise to establish the policies and procedures for operating a corporate foundation and global charitable contributions program.

A minimum of 10 years global grantmaking/nonprofit experience is required.

Appropriate work and educational experience to interact with senior PPG executives.

Bachelor’s degree required

Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Knowledge in general aspects of financial accounting.

Proficient writing, editing and public speaking skills.

Ability to manage and prioritize many programs and activities simultaneously.

Strong project management skills, including defining, organizing, planning and executing projects from vision through implementation.

Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively participate in teams.
