Frontier Communications is seeking an IT Systems Engineer to be a part of the Video Services Center (VSC) responsible for the 24x7 surveillance of the end-to-end video services for Frontier. The main responsibility of the VSC is to ensure a reliable and quality customer experience by correlating video service events and customer reports to network elements/services. This engineer will perform direct fault isolation and prompt trouble resolution, escalate and notify as required. They will also be responsible in communicating video service events and status to video stakeholders.

Responsibilities include daily monitoring and support of critical elements and computer-based systems, as well as communicating support issues to internal and external partners. Individual has strong communications skills, the ability to multi-task under pressure, excellent attention to detail, and is a quick learner with a desire to learn new tools and technology in a dynamic mission-critical operational environment. He/she reports directly to the Manager of the VSC. They also serve as a member of the Video Operations Group which is responsible for support systems required to deliver all video services to frontier customers. The VSC Engineer will work improve to improve the performance and reliability of the systems infrastructure. Individual is also involved in hardware procurement, planning, installing, upgrading, monitoring, testing, troubleshooting and servicing using skills as an experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the IPTV end- to-end video service management

Receive alerts from all layers of service delivery protocol stack in order to determine root cause

Awareness of ticket information from customer facing groups and other Tier 1 support centers

Help coordinate fault isolation and resolution as needed

Evaluate and improve monitoring platform and capabilities

Monitor public forums for potential unreported/unresolved troubles

Perform escalations and notifications

Drive prompt resolutions and engage internal parties

Develop, track and report SLA deliverables and performance

Help coordinate requirements for interface agreements & support contracts

Coordinate with the customer support front line to enable effective call deflection and accurate and timely customer communication

Inform Regional teams of outage status, service upgrades, enhancements, and content changes

Install, repair, disconnect, modify, upgrade and downgrade VSC equipment

Work with installation vendors, Engineering, technical support teams, Network Planning, Video Hub Offices and Video Serving Offices in the monitoring, operation and maintenance of video equipment in multiple video markets.

Test, troubleshoot and correct video/audio receiver equipment remotely, broadcast television equipment, encoders and transcoders, specialized control and video network systems

Troubleshoot operational issues in real time and implement corrective actions to quickly resolve customer facing services. Demonstrate considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Adapt to ongoing changes in processes, priorities, tasks and workload.

Summary of essential job functions

Required Skills and Experience:

Solid understanding of acquisition, encapsulation, and distribution of video services

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve video related outages with understanding of all layers of the OSI model

Experience/knowledge of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video compression, UDP and TCP transport protocols, and unicast vs. multicast delivery

Experience with Element Management systems and Monitoring tools (e.g. Netcool)

Ability/willingness to perform shift work on a 24x7 basis including weekends and holidays

Team player with ability to communicate across functional organizations

The ability to multi-task and make sound judgments in a fast-paced, high stress environment.

Highly organized with the ability to work both autonomously and within a team under minimal supervision.

The ability to communicate within all levels of the organization.

Desired Skills and Experience

Experience with the Mediaroom IPTV platform

Experience working with any multicast or next-generation Video delivery technologies (IPTV, ABR, Smooth Streaming, etc.)

Knowledge/experience of system automation and integration

Linux and Windows server administration

VMWare and other virtualization software

SQL, Java, Javascript, C#, C , Python, PHP, Ruby on Rails

Minimum requirements

Minimum of 2 years within digital media, cable, and/or satellite industries. Associates degree in engineering or computer science or a related technical field or equivalent work experience.
