Description The work location for this position is flexible. This position can be located in Fuquay, Cary, or Chatham (Pittsboro).  The specific work location will be discussed during the interview.   This is the second level of the  non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification.  Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision.  Incumbents are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.   Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following: Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise. Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities. Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance. Conducts engineering and related studies. Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.  Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.  Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally Work closely with Business Development Managers (BDM), Field Engineers and Large Account Management Team to ensure clear and concise communication occurs to complete the work efficiently with minimal redesigns. Work closely with E&CP designers to answer any questions about the photo metric design. Prepare detailed outdoor lighting point by point photometric layouts that meet customer requirements and deadlines. Designs should follow IES guidelines and take into consideration local ordinances if applicable. Maintain knowledge of product line including technical characteristics to produce effective lighting layouts. Draft designs may be produced by others, but the incumbent is responsible for overall preparation, accuracy, review, and deadlines.  Develop photometric training material and deliver to designers, field engineers, account managers, etc. on the proper use of a photometric design.   Work is critical to Outdoor Lighting for new revenue resulting in higher earnings, customer satisfaction and continued growth for the business.  Work safely according to safety principles, procedures and standards.   Qualifications Basic\/Required Qualifications: Either a graduate from a college or university with Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), OR 2 years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), OR 6 years equivalent experience without a degree.    Desired Qualifications: 1-3 years of drafting or technical experience Possess valid driver's license Competent user of AutoCAD or MicroStation Experience with photometric design software (Visual, AGI32, LitePro, etc.) Familiarity with outdoor lighting products - fixtures, poles, brackets etc. Knowledge of local lighting ordinances and IES standards Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Good written and oral communication skills Experience in the utility industry. Understanding of basic principles of project management.   Duke Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
