External Description:

Primary Purpose:

Work closely with day-ahead power and gas marketers to manage Sempra's fleet of assets and schedule day-ahead power transactions. Perform after-the-fact settlement true-ups. Analyze daily market fundamentals and update summary reports in a timely manner. Run daily reports and data analysis for the Power Trading group. Diagnose code and build data queries from internal and external data sources to develop new products and reports as necessary. There is significant interaction required with a number of internal and external clients, including back office, IT, real-time, external counter-parties and plant personnel. The energy analyst also provides general business and technical expertise in support of the administration, reporting and scheduling of wholesale power transactions. Relays pertinent information from scheduling environment to the trading group to stay current with gas/power scheduling practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for managing the day to day power scheduling functions and updating net position reports for power traders during pre-schedule trading timelines. (7:00AM daily start time)

• Estimates short-term market clearing prices for purposes of arranging beneficial transactions and for scheduling purchases and sales of energy, capacity and natural gas.

• Completes daily setup of dispatch models, price forecasts and portfolio aggregation reports for usage the following day.

• Communicate with marketers and external counterparties to complete pre-scheduling activities, including the creation of NERC e-Tags as necessary utilizing the OATI or other e-tagging system, for all forward and next-day wholesale power transactions.

• Communicate all next-day contract path information to key personnel.

• Provide internal reports as needed for tracking gas and power deliveries.

• Includes daily submission of bidding and scheduling information to various ISOs.

• Work with traders to develop, update and maintain trading models, in-house GUIs and vendor software systems. Requires the ability to read/write code in various programming languages (VBA, C , C Sharp etc.) to build/fix queries and to pull, sort and combine large amounts of data into summarized reports.

• Ensure that all counterparty and volume information associated with wholesale power/gas transactions are reflected in energy trade & risk management (ETRM) system and applicable ISO systems.

• Resolve any discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner to meet required deadlines.

• Actualize and assist in reconciling past month activity in ETRM.

• Work with Back Office to ensure accurate payments/invoices for power transactions.

• Responsible for aggregating daily summaries once market results are published. This includes reporting final schedules to plant personnel, analyzing, preparing and presenting daily PNL reports to the Operations Center and updating existing e-tags, tools and other files.

• Perform backup duties for the day-ahead power marketers, as required.

• Continually monitor information that may impact market conditions and communicate that information immediately to appropriate personnel.

• Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree Preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics

Experience:

• 0-3 No trading experience required but general knowledge of power markets and or commodity trading is preferred. Demonstrated ability to read/write and program in code is required.

Skills and Abilities:

• Solid time management skills with experience working in fast paced environments sensitive to punctuality.

• Experience working in critical role where accountability is key. Quick thinking and self-motivated to solve problems as they arise.

• Strong investigative, analytical and critical thinking skills.

• Proficient in programming languages, working with databases and writing code.

• Working knowledge or strong determination to learn power and gas commodity markets

• Ability to communicate effectively under both normal and demanding situations with internal and external contacts.

• Must be well organized, detail oriented and have a sense of urgency while dealing with a job that has a repetitive nature.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
