Applies technical knowledge providing direct mission support to the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR) Aircraft Combat Training System (ACTS) at Hill AFB, Utah. Uploads and downloads instrumentation pods on assigned U.S. military aircraft following established guidelines and using applicable checklists.
Performs organizational preventive and corrective maintenance on required equipment to include troubleshooting, repair and replacement of defective items and system checkout. Manages the computer based ACTS and Utah Tactical Data Link System (UTDLS) to include set up and operation of flying/debrief missions along with scenario inputs requested by participants.
Duties & Responsibilities Include:
Provide P4/P5 ACTS maintenance and support for local flying missions. Perform intermediate tasks requiring some previous training and experience. Maintain a knowledge and understanding of common test equipment such as digital multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers and oscilloscopes. Perform operational support to include: installing, maintaining, repairing, overhauling, troubleshooting, modifying, constructing and testing of various types of electronic equipment and components following detailed technical instructions. Maintain configuration logs for pods in accordance with applicable procedures. Assist 388th FW weapons personnel in the transport and loading of various types of pods as directed. Track and debrief missions for tenant units and guests at Hill AFB. This includes, but is not limited to, ARDS, P5 ACTS, P4RC ACTS and UTDL. Assist Pod Shop personnel in troubleshooting anomalies. Monitor and/or record live missions for future playback. Operate, back up, and troubleshoot all display and debrief systems. Assists supervisor in flight/work schedules; obtains information needed for scheduling ACTS and UTDLS mission/scenario support. Maintain reports and/or history logs on related equipment. Assist Pod Shop personnel in troubleshooting anomalies. Maintain work area/facility in accordance with local requirements.Train and apply tasks during cross utilization when necessary. Attend meetings and training as required.
Education and Experience:
Requires two (2) years of courses in electronics or a trade school and five (5) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience for a total of seven (7) years.
Knowledge, skills & abilities required:
Must be computer literate, able to learn new systems easily, and capable of performing duties with minimal supervision. Must be familiar with techniques used in range scheduling between participant units and ACTS/UTDLS.
Must have fundamental understanding of pod telemetry concepts.
Ability to apply demonstrated principles and practices to troubleshoot and problem solve at mid-level expertise.
Requires a medium level of mechanical and electronic skills using various types of tools and test equipment.
Demonstrated proficiency in using judgment in researching, choosing, interpreting, modifying and applying available guidelines for adaptation to specific problems or issues
Good knowledge of technical data, procedures, and systems; incorporates previous training and experience.
Ability to gather and analyze basic facts and draw conclusions in line with local policies and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of standards, rules, procedures; works in strict adherence to recognized guidelines.
Familiarity with various test and training instrumentation pods to include P5, P4RC, Advanced Range Data System (ARDS) Preferred.
Working at a computer or desk (considerations: sitting, eye strain, hand strain)
Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 70 pounds over head using a three-person lift concept.
Needs to have clear, concise and accurate communication skills
Need to work well with, co-operate, and support clients, supervisors, and co-workers
Must be able to work efficiently and calmly under high stress flight line or in shop situations.
Grease, oil and fuel may be found on working surfaces.
Must be able to sit or stand and monitor systems for an extended period of time.
Must be able to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, etc.)

Flexibility in work hours is required to support mission scheduling with occasional extended hours possible.
Must be able to work all shift hours to include weekends and holidays as required.
