The AMETEK Aerospace & Defense Division

manufactures and provides repair and overhaul services for commercial transport, regional aircraft, business jets, military aircraft and military vehicles, and also serves both the airframe and engine component manufacturers and aftermarket industry segments. The division produces sensors and fluid management systems, power data systems, thermal management components and systems, and MRO services.

Sensors and Fluid Management Systems Business Unit

Our Sensors and Fluid Management Systems Business Unit has designed and manufactured aircraft sensors for over 60 years, starting with the first U.S. aircraft engine applications and serves both the military and commercial markets. We offer custom design and engineering services and high quality manufacturing standards to measure many aircraft operating parameters including temperature, speed, pressure, flow, and level. Our product portfolio consists of high temperature thermocouples, speed sensors, fuel gauging systems, fuel level and temperature sensors, lube oil level and temperature sensors, hydraulic level and temperature sensors, waste water level sensors, fuel flowmeters and flow switches, pressure sensors, accelerometers, angle of attack and other air data system sensors and cables and harnesses.


Ametek Aerospace & Defense is looking for a strong Electrical Design Engineer with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering to join our team in Wilmington, MA. This individual will be responsible for the development and modification of a wide variety of electronic technologies. Candidate must be a self-starter and able to work in an aggressive, fast-paced, and flexible engineering environment.


Designs analog, digital and microprocessor based circuits that conform to customer supplied specifications.

Tests and debugs prototype circuits to verify that the design meets internal and external requirements.

Performs the evaluation and selection of components and sources.

Prepares customer or/and regulatory requested documents such as reliability analysis, FMEA, safety analysis, qualification plans and reports.

Makes changes to existing designs for derivative product development, cost reduction or obsolescence.

Evaluates and approves design drawings, bills of materials, procedures and reports.

Ensuring successful transition of products/projects to full scale production.

Troubleshooting and failure analysis of complex electronic circuitry.

Working with program managers to meet developmental milestones.

Developing and tracing requirements (IBM Rational DOORS a plus).

Collaborating with other team members on the development and design of embedded controllers for aircraft sensor products.

Projects will include designs for deliverable products as well as in-house testing equipment.

Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering (EE) required


0-5 years as an Electrical Engineer in a manufacturing environment

Aerospace experience a plus

Knowledge of and experience with DO-254 and DO-160 preferred.

Knowledge of and experience with DO-178 a plus.

Prior experience with FAA or other regulated environments is preferred

Expertise in designing circuits, electronics, and sensors strongly preferred

Altium Designer experience preferred

PCB layout oversight, verification testing, and documentation.

Design for sensors and avionics for qualification to RTCA DO-160

Digital and Analog circuit design including micro-controllers, analog sensors, and power supplies (experience with Microchip PIC18 and TI DSP a plus)


Excellent troubleshooting skills including hands-on use of scopes, logic analyzers, and other electronics lab equipment.

Demonstrated capability executing circuit card designs within a challenging schedule

Project management experience is a plus.

Excellent multi-tasking skills to work several sub-projects at one time.

Proven team player who has demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: excellent communication, interpersonal skills, well developed problem-solving skills; solid organizational skills; and the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and effectively relate to all levels of an organization.

Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.

The right person will be flexible who wants to learn and grow professionally.

Strong computer skills are a must, to include: Word, Excel, Powerpoint.

Detailed component level analog/digital circuit design.

Proficiency with an electronics design package such as Mentor Graphics PADS, Altium Designer, or Cadence ORCAD.

Some knowledge of C programming.
