Reads and interprets service orders, cable cut sheets, circuit diagrams and electrical schematics in order to troubleshoot, test, adjust and maintain electromechanical, analog, and/or digital central/remote offices, toll equipment, power plant generator/batteries, fuse alarms, radio communication equipment, special services equipment and transistorized circuits in carrier equipment, including working at repeater locations outside the central office.

Work on various Switches (Voip, 5ESS, GTD5, DMS)

TTL Participation is required ( even though this position is generally non-customer facing, still has TTL expectations)

T1, T3, DS0, OC, Sonet, FIOS, Ethernet installation and troubleshooting

Cross-training and OJT will be the main training

Equipment Technicians are expected to work on ALL equipment in the Central Offices.(Transport, Switch, Optical, Power, Environmental , Alarming, Timing etc)

Must be able to work alone and/or quickly come together as a team.

Good interpersonal skills and strong teamwork is mandatory.

General Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Operates local and toll testboards. Performs housekeeping duties in and around central office.

Maintains office security.

Performs cross connections, tests, locates, and corrects faults in equipment, distributing frames when required.

May repair, install and maintain radio, carrier and MUX equipment requiring an FCC radio license.

Analyzes switch printouts and determines problem areas.

Maintains and updates reports/records.

Sets up, reads and interprets test equipment, measuring devices and meters.

Works independently with limited supervision. Decisions based on problem solving, technical knowledge, and capabilities of equipment.

Follows all appropriate laws, Company policies and procedures.

May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Basic Qualifications

Read, write and speak English.

Add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.

May require fundamental knowledge of mathematical numbering systems (binary, octal, hexadecimal).

Demonstrated effective knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical and digital theory.

Physical condition to perform job duties including seeing/hearing; fingering/ feeling/handling/reaching/bending/crouching/squatting/kneeling/pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying while climbing ladders (light work).

Must possess the ability to perceive difference in colors.

Demonstrated effective ability to interpret and use electronic schematics/ drawings.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record.

Possess manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and able to use small hand tools.

May require FCC radio license.

Basic keyboard skills, alpha and numeric.

Demonstrated effective knowledge of trouble-shooting techniques.

Flexibility to work varied hours/days (holidays, weekends, overtime/call outs).

Fundamental knowledge of interface systems such as Procomm, Netsmart, NetCool and various systems to remotely log into and troubleshoot equipment

Must possess the ability to distinguish audible tones/levels.
