Applies engineering

principles to design and install distribution systems in a safe, efficient and

practical manner.  Plans, designs, and estimates costs for

natural gas systems projects.  Manages

projects during field installations.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs engineering design, calculations,

estimates, studies and coordination of gas distribution facilities

installations.Analyzes load, pressure requirements, future

growth and other variables during the design process.  Oversees the layout, sizing and

specification of pipeline equipment, economic justifications and indirect

supervision of others when project teamwork is required. Creates engineering drawings and effectively

communicate design details to field personnel and contractors.Conducts distribution system pressure and

cathodic protection studies.Makes and maintains external contacts to

assure that materials, supplies and information are available as needed and

that information is exchanged with external sources, agencies and local

utilities on line locations and planned projects.Prepares economic justification (concise,

factual and conclusive statements of the purpose, merits and necessity) for

each project proposed to assist management with evaluation of capital

investment.  This includes budget items

and completion reports for specific construction projects.Reviews completed work orders and cost data

to assure conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges.

Updates estimated unit prices as needed.Assists in evaluation of system operations

and troubleshoots problems.


Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical,

Industrial, Civil or other approved engineering discipline from an accredited college

or university.



Level I

No prior experience required. Candidates with project management experience, designing, construction plans, and scheduling is highly preferred.Additional Knowledge, Skills,

Physical Requirements:


to exert in excess of 30 pounds of force occasionally and in excess of 10

pounds of force frequently to move objects.Able

to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time. Able

to view computer terminal for extended periods of time.  Able

to demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a personal computer.Able

to operate copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other office


to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to

meet changing demands.Able

to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle for multiple hour trips.


Working Conditions:


to work indoors in normal office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all

weather conditions, hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment and noise when at field

installation sites.Able

to travel as necessary to off site locations, with occasional overnight stays

required. Able

to work in a fast paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.Able

to work occasional overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or

weekends), as needed or required to meet established deadlines.May be required to remain in

the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned

by the company to aide in restoration efforts
