The E-Commerce Sales Merchant will manage the merchandising and search strategy for one or more product categories, comprising 2,000 to 10,000 SKUs. This role requires an entrepreneurial individual with strong hands-on E-Commerce experience. You will develop category level strategies and frameworks to grow category performance and delight our customers with the content, site experience, and assortment. This highly collaborative and persuasive communicator and analytical problem solver needs to be action-oriented, quickly moving from information gathering to analysis to action.

•Develop and execute the merchandising action plan to drive sales and profit in product category. Responsible for product category performance and growth.

•Maintain emphasis on Own Brands products to drive sales and margin.

•Optimize the performance of the inventory in the online store based on customer behavior. Leverage available vendor funds to drive sales.

•Increase online conversion, revenue, and market basket size by using analytics to test and improve on-site merchandising.

•E-Commerce Merchant owns the product page for each SKU, building item and category sales growth, growing market share, with in-depth understanding of market competitive factors, building awareness and 5-Star ratings

Analyze Data

•Conduct regular and thorough review of products and pricing. Review analysis of E-Commerce tracking and metrics to inform product, promotional and pricing changes.

•Use site analytics and A/B testing tools to identify how placement and presentation decisions are impacting conversion, basket size and sales.

•Combine customer needs with online/ E-Commerce category merchandising best practices, and help define best in class customer/ category online experiences through constant test/ learn/optimization strategies.

•Infuse analytics into our merchandise strategy to drive both strategic and day-to-day decisions, utilizing a combination of internal purchase and site metrics, market data and trends, customer data and competitive analyses.

•Collaborate across the organization to identify hidden sources of value and coordinate the work required to take advantage of them.

•Partner with E-Commerce Product and Technology teams to design and develop technology enhancements to support merchandise offering.

•Act as business partner to Marketing in supporting strategies and initiatives designed to enhance our overall web presence, define our market position, maximize our loyalty programs, and leverage our E-Commerce solutions.

•Develop, direct, and implement online category and product merchandising and onsite search strategies Make products in the online store discoverable and desirable to customers

•Make site placement decisions based on customer insights and data. Plans and manages visual merchandising of website areas for product line and major campaigns

•Utilize merchandise recommendations, enhanced content, product reviews, video embeds as relevant to product categories.

•Ensure merchandising is optimized across all user platforms including web site; mobile site, and tablet app.

•Drive and manage the execution of product pilots, marketing tests, website feature MVPs, analytical methods, and product reviews

•Manage key projects and initiatives by coordinating stakeholders, keeping projects moving and driving follow-through from start to completion. Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems

•Provide revenue forecasts, merchandise assortment plans, seasonal promotions, key merchandise stories and related collateral as required.

•Provide market, competitive, strategic and tactical information to help better introduce/implement products, programs and services and refine approach as needed.

•Take responsibility for the proficiency of others in analytical methods, product proficiency, etc. Disseminate tools and expertise across the entire team as needed.

•Manage communication with third party partners regarding upcoming promotions or new launches to ensure partner is ready to fulfill orders and handle volume demands.

•Keep informed of internal company developments to ensure timely reporting of pertinent information.

Support key business opportunities by recommending solutions based on applicable data.

•Demonstrate up-to-date expertise in site merchandising and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans

•Help troubleshoot critical low performance businesses and create turnaround plans

•Analyze drivers of success in high performance businesses and support replication of those drivers in the other areas

•Monitor marketplace participants, products, service offerings and pricing.

•Prepare competitive analysis as needed and recommendations to marketing and management teams as needed.

Knowledge and Experience

•A bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing. MBA a plus.

•3 to 5 years’ experience within E-commerce and/ or grocery or CPG merchandising.

•Experience managing a portfolio of digital products, websites and mobile is a plus.

•Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

•Knowledge of statistics. Demonstrated SQL proficiency and advanced MS Excel. Knowledge of big data languages.

•Understand legal regulations within category management to maintain compliance with pricing.

•Experience in SEM, SEO, and onsite search

•Experience with Google Search Appliance or similar Onsite search engines

•Experience with A/B testing and user research tools such as Google Optimize, Optimal Workshop or similar tools

•Strong knowledge of Google Analytics or similar tools.

Company Profile:
In 1915, M.B. Skaggs, an ambitious young man in the small Idaho town of American Falls, purchased a tiny grocery store from his father. M.B.'s business strategy, to give his customers value and to expand by keeping a narrow profit margin, proved spectacularly successful. By 1926 he was opening 428 Skaggs stores in 10 states. M.B. almost doubled the size of his business that year when he merged his company with 322 Safeway (formerly Selig) stores and incorporated as Safeway, Inc. Two years later M.B. listed Safeway on the New York Stock Exchange. M.B. did not let the difficulties of the Great Depression dilute his pioneering focus on value for customers. In the 1930s Safeway introduced produce pricing by the pound, adding “sell by” dates on perishables to assure freshness, nutritional labeling, even some of the first parking lots.
