Responsible for driving profitable growth of Property and Casualty products for Safeco Insurance in the Northeast Region. Safeco Insurance is a Liberty Mutual Company.  The Northeast Region consists of the following states: Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The role consists of two core objectives; 1. Accountable for the financial and operational metrics of the inside distribution team. This includes direct management, coaching and inspiring, talent acquisition, and employee development. 2. Drives operational excellence for the entire Northeast Region team on various marketing and non-marketing initiatives.

Owns the responsibility for achieving profit and growth results for the inside distribution team.

Owns the agency relationships & agency management for the inside distribution team.

Agency Management Lifecycle including Agency Reviews, Planning, training, production & performance management 

New Agency Appointments - leverages agency geographic assessment to identify appointment areas, assist with prospecting, on-board, train, and track results vs. plan

Ensures coordinated highly effective execution of key distribution strategies to support profitable growth.

Leads and directs Inside Territory Managers for assigned territories.  Assesses potential risks and develops resolutions to achieve results.  Provides coaching, mentoring and guidance to team members. 

Leads regional marketing team to develop and execute region wide independent agency marketing plans and distribution strategies including all internal and external communications, key agency capabilities & programs, CRM, agency compensation & training.  Acts as liaison between region and home office to operationalize key initiatives and promotional campaigns.

Key senior leadership role within the Northeast region; managing agency relationships that cross boundaries between or other managers within the region.

May mentor and provide guidance and direction to Manager I, P/L Agency Mgmt on complex issues, and acts as back up to Regional General Manager (RGM) when appropriate.

Key Distribution contact for all agent communications and rate revision communications.

Collaborates with other Region Managers, Product Management, Claims, Underwriting and Marketing. 

Leverages agency compensation programs, including Agency Profit Sharing process, compensation communication, reporting, tracking and best practices.

Researches, develops and maintains Marketing and Agency support programs to capitalize upon marketing opportunities in order to increase sales in the respective region that are in support of the marketing philosophy and organizational profitability goals.  Programs include sales meetings, CSR forums, President Award communication, and agency councils.

Provides consultative advice, direction and support to the regional management team on marketing programs and techniques, agency management practices, and agency automation to enhance the region's ability to compete in the insurance marketplace.

Provides marketing input and perspective in the development of products, product advertising and marketing and agency training.  Serves as regional member of state product team.

Participates in special projects for the region and home office to drive strategic objectives.


Undergraduate degree in business or related field or equivalent training required. MBA, CIC and/or institute designation preferred.

Minimum 10 years of progressively more responsible related work experience in a field distribution environment.

Proven successful region and employee management experience including strong business acumen and understanding of agency business, solid track record of achieving results, people management and development, project management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
