Duties and Responsibilities:
The Distinguished Engineer is the subject matter expert in a technology vertical and collaborate with team members to develop game-changing solutions and prototypes. This includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
Collaborate with industry partners and create a research roadmap demonstrating potentially new State Street capabilities in the Financial Sector.
Work closely with existing clients and jointly create projects directed towards building a new class of compelling values/offerings.
Work with academia to create joint partnerships directed toward research programs that enhance State Street’s current and new offerings.
Identify short-term opportunities for the Business Units to showcase capabilities which deliver impressive developer and client experiences.
Leverage Open Source throughout the architecture, judiciously use of proprietary IP, and enable a broad application developer ecosystem, allowing ISVs and third parties to create a unique value-add on top of State Street’s new programs.
Assist the organization in driving State Street’s VC initiatives and proactively find external opportunities.
Play an intimate role in creating an innovative, tech-centric culture across the IT organization and eventually across the Business Units.
Create the architecture and roadmap in the subject matter to generate new opportunities in support of State Street’s global strategic initiatives.
Work closely with the IT organization, clients, academia and industry partners and architect inter-disciplinary technologies to continue enhancing State Street’s overall technology capabilities.
Collaborate closely with application developers and jointly architect short-term, mid-term and long-term enhancements to their applications value and usability.
Have the ability to present, negotiate and convince Senior Executives on the different application development efforts with the funding and staffing requirements and the eventual ROI benefit to State Street.
Play a major role in the critical skills recruitment, training and retention for the IT organization to facilitate fast paced R&D; efforts and corporate performance, and to meet budgetary objectives.
Qualifications & Job Requirements
An advanced degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other scientific related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in technology R&D; organization and strategy.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in research designing solutions in the subject matter.
Proven ability to detect emerging trends, and encourage and make recommendations for real-time R&D; changes.
Experience in creating innovation (patents, publications, etc.) and processes for driving innovation throughout an organization.
Demonstrate skills in problem assessment and resolution as well as collaborative problem solving in a complex setting.
Possess the creation of state-of-the-art presentations and the ability to deliver with excellent communication skills.
Proven ability to handle multiple project priorities and efficiently manage them across different organizations.
Domestic travel will be required one week a month and in some cases, two weeks a month.
