Brief Description

The Operations Director reports to the Vice President of Operations. In an operations environment, drives the planning process for operations by overseeing and managing a number of functions which may include: manufacturing, production control, manufacturing engineering, inventory control and materials. Drives for continuous improvement through lean tools.  Defines goals, improves technologies, and resolves problems in conjunction with managers across the organization. Managers will translate customer requirements into state-of-the-art manufacturing strategies and processes, resulting in cost-effective processing and profitable manufacturing of company products. They develop operations-related plans, budgets, and policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

Partner’s in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs, and objectives

Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards

Formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation

Identifies, recommends and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. Directs the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards

Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).

Leads teams in meeting safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and cost goals through the use of the Lean Manufacturing Tools

Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs,  and plant optimization strategies.)

Daily management of staff to ensure internal and external customer demands are met

Works with area planning staff to evaluate customer orders versus available labor and materials to develop a weekly and daily build/ship plan and meet on-time delivery objectives

Creates and executes policy deployment actions plans through all areas of responsibility by using the lean tools, financial reports, and short and long-term company goals

Operate within all budgets achieving product cost/margin forecasts. Responsible for managing multiple cost centers and forecasting','!*!Qualifications

BA/BS Degree; Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering or Business degree preferred

10 years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry with multi location responsibility.

A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with both Sr. Management and Associates.

Data and Fact-Based problem solving skills

Focus for safety, quality and customer satisfaction

Strong project and time management skills

Solid Data analysis/ and reporting skills using Oracle, OBI, Access and Excel.

Lean manufacturing expert (Kaizens, Kanban, Problem Solving, etc.)

Financial understanding; cost center(s) management, budgets, labor rate calculations
