Director of Maintenance / Fleet Maintenance Project Opportunities – Panama
First Transit is seeking qualified individuals interested in leading transit fleet maintenance efforts in Panama. This position will be responsible for providing leadership in the evaluation and implementation of policies and procedures to optimize fleet maintenance for 1,100 buses at six locations. This individual will interface with operating location general, operations, safety, and maintenance managers, agencies, directors, elected officials, operators and all levels of exempt and non-exempt internal employees. This person must be a self-starter able to obtain successful results. Specific attention will be given to positive client relations, financial results, leadership abilities and being able to develop a preferred employer status.
Contract and permanent positions may be available with terms of six months to two years.  As there will likely be additional opportunities available for this contract, applicants may be considered for alternate maintenance-related positions if not chosen for this position.

Director of Maintenance major responsibilities: 

Oversee contractual services for maintenance departments
Monitor, evaluate, and take corrective action for improved performance of maintenance operations
Examine and evaluate current operations to develop action plans and strategies to maximize operational efficiencies.
Provide strong leadership and guidance to develop maintenance managers and technicians
Train and oversee new and current maintenance staff in company requirements. Provide assistance in establishing training goals and requirements for all maintenance personnel
Manage computerized information systems and provide reporting as needed
Ensure maintenance services are provided within budget
Assist with contract startup and turnover operations, including vehicle and facility inspections
Conducts annual vehicle audits for all locations
Effectively maintain direct assets (vehicles, facilities, inventories, tools and equipment)
Work with maintenance team members to perform root cause analysis of issues that may occur at the site-level and assist the team in developing strategies to improve the operations of all sites visited.
Ensure compliance of local and federal laws and regulations and company policies and procedures
Analyze operating budgets
Assess resource needs, problems and trends and plan accordingly
Establish action plans to meet changing customer and region needs
Establish action plans to ensure customer retention
Assure a safe working environment
Ensure adherence to quality and customer satisfaction initiatives that are intended to improve the overall effectiveness of the organization
Provide and promote effective communications with internal and external customers
Regular travel to location sites is required
The above duties are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to define minimum activities.  These duties may be altered to suit the needs of the company as needed.

Director of Maintenance requirements:

AA/BS/BA Degree preferred; advanced technical training preferred
ASE Certified Automotive, Heavy Truck or Bus preferred
Five years of proven experience in passenger transportation or comparable service industry maintenance management
Demonstrated strong leadership and administrative ability
Excellent communication skills – fluent in both English and Spanish
Customer focused
Computer literate
Strong analytical skills
Successful track record of managing budgets and/or P&L
