Director-Nutritional Health Product Development

Successful candidate will be responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the development process and team for food animal nutritional health products. He/she will contribute leadership, technical expertise, and collaborating skills for the development and registration of novel global nutritional health products for food animal production. This individual will lead of team of species-specific scientist to deliver these multifaceted outcomes by building a network of collaborators, consultants and contract research facilities/partners.

Responsibilities include ensuring all development studies are conducted consistent with the overall nutritional health strategy and in accordance with all appropriate quality, regulatory, and geographic standards. This person will work closely with colleagues in nutritional health and global Elanco R&D oversee the proposal, design, and execution of development studies for submission to global regulatory authorities.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Provide leadership, technical expertise, and sound scientific approach, to product development and registration study design, oversight and submission, in order to demonstrate product effectiveness, safety, manufacturability, market value, mechanism of action and intellectual property rights.

Effectively lead team of species-specific scientists in a manner that clearly defines the expected outcomes with clear accountability to established timelines. As a supervisor, responsible for recruitment, management, and development through coaching and feedback to direct reports.

Ensures appropriate training prior to performing job related tasks.

Review/approve, protocols, reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters and presentations.

Demonstrate vision and apply knowledge/expertise in a manner that influences direction/decisions internally and externally.

Provide technical expertise and leadership towards the identification and evaluation of contract research facilities/partners, in order to maximize the efficiency and quality of product evaluations/registrations while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Coordinate and leverage external partners and/or consultants when needed. Effectively communicate and collaborate with customers as needed.

Effectively work/interact with peers within the nutritional health R&D, regulatory, and commercial teams, as well as within the global Elanco R&D, quality, and manufacturing organizations.

Critical participant in meetings that drive strategy and outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

PhD degree

7 years management experience in animal health, pharma or related industry

Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences

Expertise in nutrition/digestive physiology/metabolism and models therein for food animal production

Expertise in product development specific to food animal health and nutrition

Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional teams

Demonstrated understanding of animal health and nutrition industry, market needs, and potential market value

Expertise in immunology, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract and potential interaction with nutrition and growth

Thorough understanding of GRP/GCP/GLP, as well as feed and/or food GMPs

Experience working with animal health customers

Risk Management experience

Alliance Management experience

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Experience interacting with Third Party Organizations and Contract Research Organizations

Understanding of procurement process and budgeting

Negotiation Skills

Additional Information

Domestic/international travel required (25 to 50%)
