As the Director of LRL Learning and Development, you'll have the opportunity to provide leadership and strategic direction to the LRL Learning and Development (L&D) Organization to improve LRL organizational capabilities, systems, and processes to enable the business to meet short and long term objectives, external and internal requirements, and sustain a culture of high performance. This includes the identification, development, maintenance, and delivery of prioritized learning solutions


Ensure the organization is sustainable and technically capable to met all objectives and critical deliverables

Enhance the capabilities of the organization through effective recruiting, training, coaching and development of personnel.

Partner with other L&D and LRL leaders to ensure development of LRL L&D talent pipeline.

Build the optimal organizational structure for achieving objectives effectively and efficiently.

Enable desired behaviors throughout the organization through clear communication and respect for people.

Simplify and prioritize work to enable effective decision-making.

Learning Strategy

Partner with LRL leadership to develop and influence strategies for identifying and prioritizing near and long term large scale performance improvement initiatives.

Remove barriers to successful learning strategy development and execution across the breadth of LRL.

Provide leadership for LRL L&D transformation. Influence and connect with Corporate L&D to ensure continued implementation of transformation and transition activities.

Ensure the global LRL L&D activities align with corporate, LRL, and Lilly L&D strategy

Keep abreast of L&D related regulatory/policy developments and L&D industry trends, benchmarking externally and influencing Lilly L&D strategies as appropriate.

Learning Operations

Maintain a business support model to provide appropriate L&D support for LRL with a focus on GxP training

Establish and maintain documented business processes for development of training across LRL.

Represent LRL business needs in Lilly-wide L&D initiatives. Serve as point of contact for LRL related questions.

Oversee portfolio of LRL training work, including management of vendor related issues.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

Pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred

Demonstrated results/experience in the management and implementation of regulated business systems, GxP business processes

Familiarity with the Federal regulations, standards and guidelines for Quality and Compliance in the pharmaceutical industry.

Leadership skills: collaborate with teams of management and seasoned SMEs to set direction, achieve alignment and adherence, and implement to deliver results

Teamwork/Interpersonal skills: Ability to influence without authority

Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D. or M.S.) in a scientific or health-care field preferred

Understanding/familiarity of applicable Lilly Quality Systems (e.g., LQS, SEQS, PR&D QS)

Deep understanding and/or direct experience with the pharmaceutical development business

Strong communication skills in the language of product development, technology, and business

Demonstrated ability to achieve cross-component organizational alignment

Demonstrated success leading and developing experienced employees and large teams
