Overview

Underwriting is the backbone of our insurance operations. Sentry is seeking a Director of Corporate Underwriting & Products to help provide guidance, direction and underwriting support to the business through four key areas- Product Management, Product Development, Setting Standards and Project Management. By contributing in these key areas, the Director of Corporate Underwriting will have the opportunity to influence and help our business units across the organization. This is accomplished through the evaluation of financial results, the development of strategic underwriting initiatives and implementation in various business lines.

You’ll work with business units on products and projects through the product life-cycle and oversee the development of products, technical underwriting guidelines and sophisticated pricing tools in order for Commercial Lines business units to achieve financial objectives.

What You'll Do

As the Director of Corporate Underwriting for Property within Sentry Insurance you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your leadership while establishing a solid foundation with us. You will:

Partner with our niche business operations

Guide underwriters to deliver timely, high quality and profitable products and services

Recommend/implement changes to improve productivity, growth, profitability and the quality of assigned book of business

Collaborate on niche underwriting guidelines

Handle difficult underwriting inquiries through direct personal action

Ensure compliance with underwriting rules

Coordinate and participate in underwriting training programs

Monitor and inform business units of industry trends

What it Takes

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.

8-10 years of previous property underwriting experience in property, inland marine, and business owners’ policies

Effective organizational skills, human relations, analytical and communication skills.

Excellent negotiation, project management, and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of Sentry’s insurance products, distribution systems, markets and products beneficial.

Completion in or currently taking Insurance courses such as IIA and CPCU preferred

Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
