About the role:


Systems Engineering in Boston Scientific Neuromodulation is a functional role that integrates the ability to understand patient and physician needs, present and future technologies, up-to-date scientific research, regulatory environments and business strategy to create a vision of products that transform

patients' lives worldwide. The Systems Engineering team will define and manage the system level architecture and requirements that will specify cross-functional development of advanced medical products used to treat neurological disorders, including Class III implantable Spinal Cord Stimulation and Deep Brain Stimulation Systems as well as RF ablation systems.


Systems Engineering  responsibilities include: Strategic definition of a vision for next generation systems based on patient and clinician needs, post-market experiences, technology advancements and business opportunities; Definition of the system architecture, containing software, firmware, mechanical, electrical and human factors components. Definition and management of system requirements; Execution of system level integration activities of complex medical devices.  


Success in this role will allow the organization to effectively combine the internal sophistication and complexity of our therapies and technologies in a robust, reliable and simple user friendly approach to improve the lives of patients and enhance success of physicians.


Your responsibilities include:

*Lead the Systems Engineering functional team within Boston Scientific Neuromodulation's Research and Development organization, reporting to the Vice President of R&D. *Lead strategic systems definition: Integrate product needs and technologies into a vision for development of next generation systems. *Set the direction and develop comprehensive functional excellence in the Systems Engineering team covering requirements management, human factors engineering, systems architecture, regulatory standards, and the process for design inputs. *Coach, mentor and develop systems engineering talent in pursuit of sustained industry-leading solutions. *Communicate effectively and participate on cross functional development teams with good negotiating skills to direct multi-disciplinary teams toward solutions. *Influence Boston Scientific Neuromodulation strategic  products and technologies roadmaps . *Understand customer needs, disease state, current therapies, competitive products, technology trends and use models. *Drive translation of features from market and research to product specs. Perform trade-off analysis: Features, development timelines,  cost and opportunity costs. *Ensure projects satisfy marketing, R&D, regulatory, quality and operations requirements. *Guide creation of a clear, cohesive and robust architectural design and requirements specifications for products in the portfolio. *Define interfaces  and system elements; in particular software, hardware, firmware, electronics and human factors system components. *Ensure the Quality Systems are understood, implemented and maintained within the department. *Work with Regulatory team on submission strategies for clinical studies, pre-clinical trials, clinical trials and product commercialization. *Verify and Validate that product design meets all requirements.

*Bachelor's degree or higher. *Experience leading and growing highly technical cross functional teams. *Experience in the creation and development of complex systems in cross functional environments. *Demonstrated ability to develop a vision and product portfolio. *Abilities to oversee, monitor and synthesize: *Progress of departments or units toward divisional and company goals. *All costs associated with assigned organizational unit *Industry trends and external environment in areas relevant to the assigned organizational unit. *Competency to  perform  investigations and solve problems that impact work processes and personnel in multiple units or departments. *Strong sense of mission and passion for products that transform patients' lives.
