The Director, Learning Development is responsiblefor the design and development of products utilizing a variety of deliverymethodologies, as well as leading the design and development efforts ofInstructional Designers. The Director, Learning Development supports acollection of brands for design and development efforts inclusive of the broadmanaged, franchise, management and hourly audiences. This position requires leadership,strong project management, instructional design expertise, development andclient management experience. The Director, Learning Development will leadInstructional Designers and/or external vendors in the design and developmentof learning items. The Director, Learning Development will have InstructionalDesigners report directly to them, in addition to directing the work of alarger cadre of internal and external design teams.
BA/BS(or equivalent) in instructional design, human resources, or related fieldrequired.
7 yearsof instructional design and development experience.
Significantdesign and development experience and demonstrated ability in applying adultlearning theory and iterative instructional design methodologies (i.e., SuccessiveApproximation Model (SAM)), using a variety of innovative approaches.
Ableto prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment; experienceoperating in a matrix environment.
Strongcommunication and directional capabilities when working with an external vendorto ensure development success.
Excellentwritten and oral communication skills.
Programand project management expertise.
Strongdevelopment experience using Rapid Development tools, e.g., Articulate,Storyline, Captivate, Lectora, Adobe Creative Cloud Applications.
Designand development experience for hospitality, brand or service relatedorganization.
Experiencein publishing and testing in a learning management system.
Provenexperience in development of multiple learning modalities, i.e., mobile,online.
Graduatedegree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Design & Development
Scope the learning and development needs for the brands to identify theresources, learning objectives, output milestones, budget, and timeline foreach project.
Determine whether to build, buy or curate content to meet the needs ofthe client.
Strong experience building learning items from analysis, design andstoryboard, development, project input and client presentation.
Firsthand development responsibilities for complex, highly visibleprojects that require senior learning leadership direction and support.
Strong leadership and ability to interact with subject matter expertsacross a variety of clients, e.g., brand or discipline, to design and developeffective learning solutions.
Clearly and concisely present ideas to clients on learning item design.
Execute learning item(s) review with client to secure sign-off at eachdesignated milestone to keep the project on time and on budget.
Package multiple items to create curriculum, as appropriate.
Build and test items in learning management system as part of thedeployment activities.
Partner with L D Performance Advisor in annual learning initiativeplanning for the designated client(s).
Partner with L D Performance Advisor to build and develop strong clientrelationships.
Partner with L D Experience Design for creative for large designprojects providing clients\u2019 perspective and plan for the output for thelearning items.
Partner with L D Communication, L D Delivery, Continent PMO /Communications / Implementation groups to implement and rollout learningprograms as appropriate.
ManagingWork, Projects, and Policies
Partner with Learning Operations team to ensure that all projects areaccounted for through Governance & Planning processes.
Coordinatesand implements work and projects for instructional designers and/or externalvendors (e.g., capacity management)
Generatesand provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations,etc.
Analyzesinformation and evaluates results to choose the best solution and solveproblems.
Developsspecific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
