About the role:
The Health Economics & Market Access (HEMA) Director will develop and direct the global strategy and methodologies for effective health economics and market access activities across all key development and marketed products in our Peripheral Interventions division. Efforts are designed to support the value proposition for Boston Scientific products and to increase market access and patient access to care. The role involves collaboration with internal and external teams, with participation in upstream and downstream activities across the Peripheral Interventions franchise, including new business development. In addition, the role involves assessing and representing HEMA priorities, opportunities and risks for Peripheral Interventions technologies at the divisional senior management level.
Your responsibilities include:
*Directing the development and implementation of strategic reimbursement, market access and evidence plans for key global Peripheral Interventions products. Manage the team in order to ensure execution through health economics outcomes, market access initiatives and stakeholder engagement actions. Utilizes business and HCP inputs to define global HEMA strategy, objectives and budget. *Directing strategic health economics needs for Peripheral Interventions products, including planning for global economic/reimbursement dossier submissions for private and public coverage of key technologies. *Identify and prioritize key global products where HEMA strategy will be important for product success in development and post-launch. *Representing HEMA priorities and advise senior management on implications of global, national, state and local HEMA and legislative changes effecting Peripheral Interventions products through participation on the divisional management team. *Budgeting responsibility for all division-wide HEMA resources. Responsible for adhering to established budget guidelines. *Providing HEMA assessments for new technology acquisition strategies for key Peripheral Interventions products. Ensuring that potential business development opportunities have incorporated appropriate evidence generation strategies. Identifying HEMA risks and developing mitigation strategies for new business development opportunities. *Directing development and implementation of all HEMA materials and training for both internal (sales) and external customers (including clinicians, hospitals, purchasing groups and payers). Ensuring collaboration with other functions (e.g., marketing, R&D, clinical, etc.). *Establishing/maintaining a network of key health policy and specialty society leaders. Representing and promoting BSC with relevant stakeholders (governmental bodies, funding and reimbursement groups, ISPOR, KOLs, etc.), through market access initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities, demonstrating clinical and health economics outcomes and contributing to the creation of innovative value propositions. *Providing strategic guidance for economic and pricing forecasts and modeling of novel products in the Definition and Scale-up phases of technology development for key Peripheral Interventions products. *Directing and supervising staff as necessary to implement all of the above strategic and tactical initiatives. Developing senior members acting as a coach and supervise the development of other junior resources. *Owning development and implementation of market access strategy, including establishing alternative payment or revenue models that reward the clinical and economic value of BSC products. Establishing strategies and tactical plans to gain market access for new therapies. *Collaborating with Corporate Sales and Global Healthcare Solutions teams to ensure consistent and effective messaging of products' value propositions across sales channels.
What we're looking for:
*Minimum 10+ years of solid work experience with management experience. *Masters or doctoral degree (e.g., MS, MPH, MBA, PhD, Dr PH, JD) or equivalent required. Formal training in health economics, public health, health services research, policy analysis, epidemiology, biostatistics, health care administration or related discipline preferred. *The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, management and technical skills in the areas of health economics and market access. The position requires the candidate to be current in the field and able to work in a wide array of settings. Must be able to work at many levels within the organization with a minimal amount of direction. *Must be able to contribute at a business leadership level, thinking always of HEMA objectives but providing business-level input even beyond HEMA role. *Experience in health economics, health insurance reimbursement and/or outcomes research, preferably related to the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
*Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. and global healthcare systems including expertise in health care financing, reimbursement policies related to the device industry, and technology assessment. *Ability to interpret and integrate business strategies into actionable, value-added health economics and reimbursement initiatives. *Successful leadership, project management and presentation skills, including proven ability to manage through a highly matrixed environment. *Experience working as an internal or external consultant with responsibility for line customers. Preferably in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry. *Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills including developing relationships at all levels in an organization and directly influencing business objectives. *Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions independently and to work in a fast-paced matrix environment. *Willingness to travel approximately 30%.
