The Finance Operations team manages Google's cash transactions on a global basis and ensures that Google's incoming and outgoing cash processes are controlled, effective and efficient. As a member of this team, you'll find innovative ways to manage our complex set of transactions. You thrive on making processes more efficient and scalable, you work to ensure the highest level of quality of our operations and you proactively minimize operational risk. Externally, you collaborate with our outsourcing partners and internally, you collaborate across the five areas of the Financial Operations team: Global Revenue Operations, Procure to Pay, Electronic Payment Services, Business Process Outsourcing, and Payroll.

The Director of Global Payroll plays a critical, high-visibility role in the organization. Whether it be through championing our existing transformation efforts, process re-engineering, investments in tools and automation, or outsourcing of our processes, this leader will drive continuous improvement efforts through tight collaboration with Alphabet’s HR, Accounting, Treasury, and Corporate Engineering teams, all while maintaining near flawless team execution and compliance amidst complex statutory requirements.

You possess strong business acumen, great interpersonal skills, a passion for learning, a bias for thoughtful action, and a desire to create a fun environment for themselves and the team.

From developing forward-thinking analysis to generating management reports to scaling our automated financial processes, the Finance organization is an important partner and advisor to the business.

Responsibilities

Lead a diverse team of senior people leaders and contractor relationships responsible for global operations across sales bonus, time tracking, and core payroll.

Maintain strong business relationships with upstream and downstream partners and stakeholders to ensure end-to-end processes are well-thought out to address customer and regulatory requirements. Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Benefits teams to identify, resolve, and avoid payroll compliance issues.

Set and execute upon comprehensive strategies with stakeholders to achieve higher degrees of quality, controls, and efficiency.

Establish and set operational strategy for owning all operating and SOX controls within team.

Prioritize and drive diverse and complex projects including outsourcing and organizational transformation.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

15 years of relevant experience in global HR and payroll in the high-tech industry.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's or PhD.

Experienced leader of medium- to large-sized teams; Strong influencing skills and change management experience.

Experience working in shared services or outsourced environment.

Strong operations management and process improvement experience preferred; ability to successfully manage complexity and multiple priorities.

Quick learner with interest in understanding and applying payroll best practices. Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, global and dynamic environment.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, and proven coaching skills in a transaction-oriented work environment.
