HISTORY OF THE ALADDIN PRODUCT GROUP (APG)

When BlackRock was started in 1988, its founders envisioned a company that combined the best of financial services with cutting edge technology. A company that would provide financial services to clients as well as technology services to other financial firms. The technology services are called Aladdin. The Aladdin Product Group is responsible for evolving and keeping Aladdin at the fore-front with the latest in next generation technology and solutions.

TEAM OVERVIEW

Sales and Distribution Systems (SDS) within the Aladdin Product Group is responsible for the core systems used to manage the money-flow lifecycle which drives the core investment process. Our primary objective is to ensure that systems are highly scalable to support ongoing business demands and increases in flow activity. SDS contributes heavily to the evolution of the Aladdin platform which directly influences the product's market share. The team has an extensive project list working on the core Aladdin platform at BlackRock. There is regular interaction with portfolio managers, business operations groups and client management. The team has a global footprint with team members in Singapore, London, Budapest, Delaware and San Francisco.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is for a development manager in the team building Aladdin’s Client and Fund Trading platform. This team is responsible for delivering Client Order Management the tools to create, query and authorize client’s investment instructions from receipt to settlement. The team also provides Portfolio Managers the tools to trade in funds, automating the end to end processing on Aladdin for the creation, execution and oversight of fund orders to & from Transfer Agents. It is a green field project consisting of Java servers, a web front end and enterprise technologies such as messaging, caching and coordination.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Manage technical direction and team output

Navigate across teams to resolve complex process & system challenges

Partner with Stakeholders across investment and operations in defining, prioritizing and executing projects.

Be passionate about building full stack solutions that are resilient, secure and scalable to function in a global intensive business environment.

Partner with BAs, users and developers to design and engineer the best solutions

Be involved in all aspects of the SDLC

Ensure best practices are adhered to with a passion for clean, maintainable code regardless of technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a background in managing development teams that work on business facing transactional system. They will have demonstrated the ability to manage people, make architectural decisions, understand business processes to deliver the cleanest solutions.

Essential

Extensive experience with multi-tier transactional architecture and design

Extensive experience in enterprise software development in Java and web development stacks (Angular, NodeJS, HTML & CSS)

Experience using Agile methodologies – previous experience working from a backlog, sprints, retrospectives etc.

Passionate about test driven, clean code, automatically tested and continuous deployment

Line management experience

Enjoys a fast-paced, high-intensity environment

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to work in a global team-environment

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to present and convey ideas

Strong attention to detail; action-oriented attitude, and willingness to roll up sleeves
