Data Center Technician

Six Month Contract

The Data Center Technician is responsible for the physical management of our co-location environments and acts remotely for Network Engineers, Systems Administrators, Software Engineers, Database Administrators and vendors around the world. In addition, you will be responsible for installing new services, assist with testing, resolve incoming trouble tickets, document activities, and troubleshoot data center infrastructure.

Technical Requirements and Functions:

Configures, installs, and supports dedicated servers

Configures, installs, and maintains dedicated network components

Keeps the data center organized and efficient

Troubleshoots physical problems and addresses issues within the facility

Installs, moves, and decommissioning of hardware within the data center

Works on trouble tickets

Troubleshoots problems on dedicated server.

Hardware expert - knowledgeable in non-standard hardware platforms

Fix broken servers (replace hard drives; replace bad sticks of RAM, etc.)

Infrastructure: Ability to monitor and respond to environmental, networking, and electrical issues in an emergency

Networking: Capable of building custom cables (CAT5e, CAT6) and wiring custom racks and cable management

Documentation: Thorough and concise documentation of procedures and bug tracking; can apply logic and analytical skills to tracing and formally documenting all steps taken during troubleshooting.

Participate in capacity planning, tracking and reporting

Monitor and report on environmental conditions

Backup tape maintenance (swapping, logging, storing/shipping)

Engage vendors for hardware problems covered under existing support contracts

Accept incoming shipments and track server assets through deployment

Facilitate equipment shipments for moves and RMA (un-rack, crate, ship)

Inventory control for servers, components and cables

Execute hardware Lifecycle Management plans

Miscellaneous: With the above skills, is a key player in troubleshooting multiple server or complex environments including firewalls, load balancing

Job Qualifications:

Excellent organization and follow-up skills

Excellent customer relation and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple activities/projects while working solo

Ability to troubleshoot complex problems as it relates to hardware components

Ability to successfully coordinate with other departments in solving complex server provisi0oning problems

Solid understanding of server hardware

Team members should possess basic System, Storage and Network Administration skills in the areas of Linux, Window, NetApp, Cisco and Dell

Able to use ticketing and proprietary systems for tracking work

Works productively and positively with other departments to minimize errors and reduce SLAs

Ability to telnet and console into switches, routers, and other networking equipment to assist our Networking department in administration and troubleshooting connectivity issues

Willingness and ability to adapt to constant change to the work environment

Willingness to work On-Call to cover after-normal business hours and weekends

Education: AA Degree in Technical Field (desired but not mandatory)
