About Corporate Communications at Macquarie

The Corporate Communications and Investor Relations (CCIR) and Brand & Marketing team, located in New York, is responsible for internal and external communications for Macquarie in the Americas region, including brand strategy, marketing communications, media relations, event marketing, and internal communications.

The CCIR team as a whole strives to raise Macquarie’s profile among external constituencies, including: institutional investors, such as mutual funds, hedge funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and private equity firms; key corporate decision-makers; key decision-makers in terms of sales and trading of physical and financial commodities, including energy; the media; and other stakeholders and industry influencers.

With respect to internal communications, CCIR has primary responsibility for ensuring staff have a strong, reliable and consistent awareness and practical working knowledge of the firm as a whole and its underlying business activities. Working closely with HR, CCIR is responsible for instilling, promoting and enhancing the firm’s culture with close adherence to company’s stated principles of Opportunity, Accountability and Integrity.

Position Summary

Macquarie in the Americas has experienced substantial growth and business momentum over the past few years. Since 2009, the firm has made a number of strategic acquisitions, key senior hires and built out new business lines in the region.

The CCIR Americas team seeks a corporate communications professional with at least 7-10 years’ experience to support its external communications initiatives, with a primary focus on media relations.

Working as part of a global team, the individual will be responsible for representing Macquarie to the media, particularly its capital markets-facing businesses, including services provided by Macquarie Capital, and Commodities and Global Markets. While most coverage will emanate from the US, support for Canada and Latin America will be required (with minimal travel), in addition to Macquarie’s global franchise.

The position will entail both proactive media pitching and positioning, along with reactive PR and issues management. As Macquarie seeks to raise its profile in this region, a proactive media relations plan will be required. This will include: introductory meetings between journalists and various Macquarie business leaders; ongoing media relationship-building; and strategic media activities for select businesses. The role will also require working closely with Brand & Marketing team members on content marketing and internal communications.

The individual will work to develop strong relationships as a trusted advisor to leadership across the businesses in the defined coverage areas. He/she must be a self-starter and able to work in a dynamic environment and demonstrate strong communications capabilities and professionalism at all times.

The individual must have public relations experience in financial services, with a proven track record in both proactive and reactive PR, along with existing relationships with journalists.

This position will be a key addition to the CCIR Americas team. He/she will report to the Regional Head of Corporate Communications for the Americas, and will work with all members of the New York communications and Brand & Marketing team, as well as developing strong relationships with colleagues internationally.

General responsibilities

The VP of Corporate Communications will:

Proactively plan, develop and execute corporate and business PR initiatives in conjunction with business groups and management

Respond to media requests and pitch Macquarie's personnel and expertise to appropriate journalists

Work with the CCIR team to develop communications strategies in support of brand, business and product initiatives

Interface with senior executives and develop a reputation as a trusted advisor

Interact with CCIR team members around the world to ensure informed, consistent and coordinated external communications

Work with the rest of the Americas CCIR and Brand & Marketing team and the CCIR Sydney team on media relations, social media and content marketing, as required

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree at a minimum

Media relations background required, with at least 7-10 years’ work experience

Prior experience in the financial services industry is required. In-depth knowledge of investment banking is sought, particularly advisory, corporate finance and the capital markets. Knowledge of commodities, energy markets and infrastructure would be a plus.

Flexibility to travel, attend events as required and to work, if needed, outside of standard office hours

Experience with communications channels such as social media and digital marketing

Microsoft Office-literate, with specific experience working in Word and PowerPoint
