JOB SUMMARY

As a Michael Foods, Inc. Continuous Improvement/Industrial Engineering Intern you will have your own project, present your results to business leaders, have the opportunity to make a real impact on our business and start building your career! As part of the plant/corporate continuous improvement/industrial engineering team, you will be involved in productivity/efficiency analysis, support corporate/plant industrial engineers on Supply Chain/Operations optimization and process improvement projects.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Collect floor data as needed, extract production data from business warehouse; resolve data quality issues and merge datasets from multiple resources;

Develop statistical models and/or use operations research methods to support supply chain optimization projects, such as warehouse capacity maximization, production schedule optimization, etc.;

Support asset based capacity calculations from the engineering perspective and support plant trials as needed; identify process bottleneck on each resource and potentially propose constraint breaking solutions;

Remotely support manufacturing execution system (MES) implementation at desired locations;

Develop performance/downtime/behavior reports using business intelligence (BI) tools and existing templates;

Work with Research and Development (R&D) and Quality Assurance (QA) departments to support new product development (NPD) projects and resolve quality related issues such as variance control and customer complaints; participate in root cause analysis with other functional departments as needed;

Work with plant engineer, control engineer and maintenance on equipment trouble shooting and process improvement;

Be in a team environment and support other team members for activities; communicate cross-functionally to assist team to solve process issues;

Assist in conducting presentations and formal training programs; assist in organizing and facilitation team meetings to achieve process continuous improvement process.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in the field of industrial or electrical and computer engineering field.

Eager to learn and challenge yourself; self-directed, detail oriented, reliable and strong initiative.

Understand the fundamental engineering principles; having a basic understanding on heat transfers, material balance, energy balance, and being able to conduct basic thermodynamic calculation. Passing NCEES Fundamental Engineering (F.E.) Exam is expected but not required.

Basic understanding on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), plant performance, root cause analysis, continuous improvement methodologies and Six Sigma tools/improvement cycles; excellent verbal and oral communication skills and be able to influence others.

Strong interest in modeling and business intelligence. Will to learn some BI tools, such as SAP Lumira, Webi and/or Tableau and reporting functions. Logic and creative thinking is highly expected.

Strong computer competency; advanced excel user; programming experience is required; be familiar with VBA, SQL, R (and/or Python), and C . Basic understanding on relational database is a plus.

Strong statistical skills include but not limited to statistical process control (SPC), capability analysis, linear regression, non-linear regression, classification, decision tree, clustering, and design of experiment (DOE).

Good understanding on operations research (OR) techniques and be able to use Excel, LINGO and/or other solvers to solve OR related problems.

Be able to work 10 consecutive weeks during the months of May through August.
