Job Summary

Responsible for developing customer research capabilities, both primary and secondary within Walgreens to support the company vision of creating a customer-centric culture; building and managing a team with responsibility to understand the behaviors, attitudes, and drivers of Walgreens' customers, patients and payers (and other influencers). Responsible for synthesizing consumer research findings into actionable insights and driving the creation of new products/programs at the business group level and new customer facing marketing programs. Responsible for working with business and marketing partners to understand the goals and objectives to be able to create and deliver against a research roadmap (strategic Plan) which prioritizes the primary research information needed to develop actionable objectives and strategies. Also, responsible for managing a team of project managers as well as our vendor partners.

This role is responsible for leading all research related to brand and advertising development for Walgreens. Through a team of specialists and best in the business agencies, this role assures that Walgreens understands its brand value, strengthens its positioning within a dynamic marketplace, maintains an emotional relationship with customers and clearly delivers on its promise. This role regularly interacts with Chief Marketing Officer and senior leaders throughout Walgreens. The role is responsible for appropriately leveraging the latest brand and advertising development thinking and tools. This role is responsible for synthesizing data into compelling insights that influence smart decisions.

Job Responsibilities

Builds and manages a team to lead the development of Consumer Research. Coaches and develops experience professionals through training, establishing objectives, communicating, and delivering constructive feedback.

Helps define and translate business goals into a Consumer Research plan (short and long-term) with actionable strategies. Leads a team to serve as single point of contact in coordinating the consumer research needs of one or more business groups. Works collaboratively with Insights, strategic modeling, loyalty, other business group insights leaders, manufacturers and research vendors and provides consumer research to support overall insights.

Directs the development of primary research and incorporates secondary sources to help tell a full consumer story, utilizing trends in the market. Works with primary consumer research vendors such Ipsos, Directions and GFK and secondary vendors such as Mintel, The Futures Company and Forester.

Advises and makes actionable recommendations to executive management, business groups and marketing leaders on strategic initiatives related to developing a customer focused organization.

Works with industry and vendor experts to stay abreast of new developments in consumer research insights and tools. Makes sure that we are working with the best vendors. Pushes the vendors to have continuous improvement to better serve our business.

Builds an in-depth understanding of a specific business group that rely heavily on primary research to be able to drive the consumer understanding through the organization. Delivers against roadmap created in learning plans.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience in Consumer Research.

At least 5 years of experience in primary and secondary research.

At least 5 years of experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).

Knowledge of financial analysis and analytics.

At least 5 years of experience managing relationships.

At least 5 years of experience analyzing and synthesizing information into the big picture.

At least 5 years of experience with influencing senior management.

Experience collaborating with (internal resources, external resources, both) to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and established timelines.

Experience developing strategic initiatives which align with business goals and budget.

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).

Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).

Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization.

Experience in coaching, mentoring, and training staff.

At least 3 years of experience directly or indirectly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing/assisting people as they work.

Willing to travel up to 20% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree.

Extensive experience leading research that develops brands

Extensive experience leading research that generates powerful advertising

Extensive experience with traditional and digital advertising
