Responsibilities This challenging R&D position is responsible for a broad variety of activities as a Site Veterinarian for the Veterinary Services facilities applying a unique combination of one\u2019s veterinary education, expertise, and experience together with people and leadership skills. The veterinarian will provide critical, specific technical resource and technical leadership for the Global Operations team as a Site Veterinarian. One will meet all needs at the site for veterinary, (especially clinical), expertise including experimental design, all veterinary aspects of research protocol execution, recommendations and implementation of veterinary health programs, USDA compliance (including animal welfare act),AAALAC requirements, veterinary diagnostics, treatment, and gross pathology, and emergency veterinary care. This must be accomplished by hands on engagement and skilled collaboration. As a technical leader and veterinarian in R&D, one will provide the \u201ccan do\u201d approaches and insights that give Elanco a competitive advantage in assessing the biological activity of our vaccine and pharmaceutical leads, and in rapid experimental progress in new product research and development. 1). Provides state of the art veterinary medical care with outstanding clinical assessment and technical capabilities. Effectively manages all stakeholders [e.g. regulatory authorities, QC personnel, and Animal Care, Research Associates and R&D scientists] with every veterinary intervention. All clinical cases are evaluated and documented per applicable SOP. Provision of veterinary care in accordance with the guide for care and use of animals and other contemporary publication regarding laboratory animal medicine. 2). Work closely and collaborate with all functions [Animal Care, R&D, Research & Testing QC] in the design, implementation, documentation and monitoring of contemporary veterinary health and preventative medicine programs. Pragmatic and compliant programs are established and continuously monitored for compliance and opportunities for improvement. Areas for improvement could be increased worker safety, animal welfare, standard of medical care and efficiency. 3). Technical advisor for QC clinical testing methods and design, implementation, and completion of studies to evaluate new product leads. Sought out as a technical advisor by key customer groups. 4). Train and verify investigators and technicians on veterinary clinical procedures. Basic Qualifications DVM\/VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school and licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the United States. Must be eligible to obtain Licensure and DEA registration in IA. \u00a0 Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Additional Skills\/Preferences Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrate proficiency with veterinary clinical skills. Additional Information Site veterinarian may supervise staff technicians as applicable.\u00a0 Direct Reports: 0-3; Total Reports: 0-3 Moderate lifting required\/often works in the severe weather conditions and in facilities with animals. Must be able to conduct clinical observation by vision and hearing.
