Job Description

What Business Intelligence contributes to Cardinal Health

Business Intelligence is responsible for applying business process knowledge and data analytics to develop, recommend and communicate timely, accurate, relevant, and actionable insights to support business decisions and objectives.

Uses knowledge of business and data to discover and/or anticipate problems or opportunities where data can be leveraged to address the need.

Asks probing questions to translate business needs in order to build and design reporting solutions (metric management, dashboards, enterprise performance management).

Applies data visualization, descriptive and summary statistical techniques for discovery and timely insights (data exploration, ad-hoc queries, and analysis).

Interprets results of analyses, identifies trends and issues (forecasting), and develops alternatives to support business objectives.

Applies data aggregation, descriptive analysis and data presentation techniques and tools to communicate complex findings and recommendations to influence others to take action.

Demonstrates ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information to a variety of audiences and mediums.


Bachelor’s degree in Business, Analytics, Finance, Marketing, or other related field

5 years experience in related field preferred

Experience with data query, visualization, dashboard and/or scorecard tools preferred

Strong business and financial acumen

Knowledge and understanding of 835 electronic remittance files is a plus

Demonstrated experience with querying, manipulating, and aggregating data from business systems to produce meaningful reporting and decision support information

Understanding of relational databases, MS-SQL knowledge and experience is preferred

Experience using data query, visualization, dashboard design tools or data workflow tools (ex. SSMS/SSRS, Tableau, Business Objects, Alteryx, etc.) is preferred

Experience developing OLAP data cubes using SSAS is a plus.

Basic understanding of operations and claims processing in pharmacy or other healthcare related area is preferred

Work with IT partners to develop data models for payer remittance (835) data

Monitor and maintain the accuracy and quality of payer remittance data

Identify, analyze, and report on remittance trends and payer behaviors

Perform analysis of remittance, claims, and reimbursement data providing information, insights, and decision support to Managed Care, Marketing, Sales and other areas within the organization

Develop and generate pharmacy profitability reporting

Monitor and report payer contract compliance and performance

Work and communicate effectively with IT partners, management, and customers to gather requirements and assist in the design and development of reporting and analytics solutions

Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and content documentation
