With the Google Access team, you’ll work on cross-product and cross-team initiatives, working closely with cross-functional team members to refine and evolve our projects, as well as deploy new technologies to markets and communities around the globe. You like being on-the-ground, executing complex projects that bring internet access to people.

The construction manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations and job completion of projects related to our Outside Plant (OSP) network in the field. You'll be responsible for everything that happens in the pre-construction, construction and splicing phases of an overall projects relating to Installation of Fiber Optic Networks. You'll also be responsible for hitting pre-construction and construction due date, interval, budget, quality and safety objectives - delivering the project on time, on budget and in compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Support the NDO Lead to manage the construction of Google Fiber’s FTTH network. Manage all construction work activity of contractors, and prioritizes the work activity in their assigned geographic area and/or construction managers including those not working exclusively on Outside Plant (other areas may include drops, MxU, and greenfields).

Manage third-party pre-construction and construction suppliers. Participate in project meetings and effectively support the overall project effort.

Manage and meet pre-construction and construction schedules, intervals and due dates. Ensure that projects are built according to approved plans and specifications.

Develop, maintain and drive the construction schedule in conjunction with project team; ensure project milestones and completion dates are met.

Supervise field employees; ensure their work is planned and performed efficiently and their timesheets are accurately coded. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to seamlessly turn over completed network to Operations and Customer Service.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

Experience in managing complex Fiber to the Home (FTTH) projects and/or outside plant projects. Experience in coordinating work schedules, and contractor compliance requirements.

Experience in Outside Plant (OSP) construction and vendor management, selection, contract, production tracking and reporting, and project closeout and retainage release.

Experience in managing right of way and structure owner negotiations, relationships and ensuring contractor compliance to requirements.

Preferred qualifications:

BS degree in Construction Management or Operations Management.

8 years of construction experience as a Construction Manager or similar direct supervisory role.

Experience in other telecommunications positions such as Engineering and Operations.

Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ESRI and shapefile functionality.

Knowledge of network drawings, route maps and scopes of work and interpreting fiber test results and auditing projects for compliance with scopes of work.

Robust knowledge of inside and outside plant fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally to design and build scalable construction, installation and support processes.
