Reporting to the Director, Global

Communications, midscale at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (WH&R), the Communications

Specialist is a key member of the Global Communications team supporting the

department in its mission to publicize WH&R, its brands and executives to

external stakeholders while also helping manage the company’s favorable

reputation among key public stakeholders and ensuring alignment with the

department’s and larger organization’s overarching global strategies. The

position requires an individual to have excellent decision-making skills and

the ability to build strong relationships at all levels, internally and

externally. The role offers exposure to high levels of the organization;

requires accountability, poise, sense of urgency and professionalism at all

times; and has decision-making autonomy in low-risk situations.

 

He/she will be responsible for communications

activities that support company and department goals, including supporting day-to-day

strategic development and tactical execution of public relations efforts for

the company’s midscale brands. This includes but may not be limited to:

campaign research and development; responsibility for the department’s metrics,

specifically evolving and quarterly media coverage reports; story

creation and placement, including press release writing and proactive pitch

development; media inquiry research; media relationship management;

crisis/reputation management support; and maintaining externally facing company

materials.

 

Given the nature of the 24-hour media

landscape and the Communications department’s global remit, the position

requires the candidate to be flexible and available before and/or after regular

business hours in the event of crisis situations, consumer/company events or timely

media inquiries/requests.

 

The Communications Specialist works closely

with key internal and external stakeholders – including senior leadership /

legal / finance teams, global counterparts, members of the media, key vendors

and partners – to ensure messaging and communications channels are relevant,

accurate and align with the company’s strategies. ResponsibilitiesSupports publicity of significant brand announcements,

including but not limited to drafting proactive media pitches, writing press

releases, building media lists and researching media inquiries to help gain

positive exposure for the company, its brands and executives. This support

extends to crisis situations and urgent media requests, which may occur beyond

regular business hours or on weekends.Manages department’s media hotline and email inbox, ensuring

all inquiries are handled appropriately. Requires keen decision-making skills

and a very comprehensive understanding of the company’s structure and key

stakeholders to facilitate such inquiries.Monitors media coverage regarding the company and its

brands, disseminating to key stakeholders as appropriate and alerting leadership

of potential concerns.Builds and maintains relationships with key media and

influencers. Requires excellent research and interpersonal skills as strong

relationships with media and influencers are fundamental to the department’s

success and managing the company’s/brands’ reputations.Responsible for maintaining externally facing company and/or

brand documents and responding to industry surveys to position the company and

its brands accurately in trade and business publications.

This

position holds moderate decision-making responsibilities, requiring requires

excellent decision-making skills and judgment when interacting with media,

executives, counterparts and partners. It requires that the Communications Specialist

to prioritize, determine and execute necessary actions to ensure media

inquiries and internal stakeholder requests receive relevant and timely responses

that also align with the company’s and brands’ goals and objectives.

This

position works closely with all members of the department as well as with the

company’s senior executives, and marketing, operations, legal and financial

teams.

This

position is expected to preserve the company’s and its brands’ good standing

and positive reputation.

There

are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Scope/Financial

Responsibility

This

position will help the Communications team obtain exposure for WH&R and its

midscale  brands in the news media and

among customers and consumers to leverage and displace the need for additional paid

advertising. The value of this free exposure is measured in terms of its

ability to drive room nights and commensurate revenue through franchisees by

creating positive, high awareness of the company’s brands, products and

services, and building mindshare and consideration among consumers.

Experience/Certificates/Education

College degree (BA/BS in Journalism,

Communications or Public Relations-related field preferred) / at least 2-4 years
