Local Public Affairs (LPA) is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Government Affairs Organizational Unit. LPA is tasked with earning the active support of government and community leaders to achieve SCE’s vision of a clean energy future.

Position Overview

This position will be a Communications Specialist focusing on social and digital channels (CMS3) in the Public Affairs Policy Engagement group in the department of Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Local Public Affairs organization. This position reports to the Policy Engagement Manager and is matrixed to various project teams. The Communications Specialist supports the team with digital and social strategies and activities and also collaborates with other digital and social media strategists in the company.

This position, as a part of the policy engagement team, will create, implement and provide data analysis on digital and social media campaigns, including campaigns and content for social channels, digital channels, text and apps using a suite of platforms. Creates and implements strategies for online social research, online and in person coalition building, stakeholder engagement and a combination of earned and paid content placement in support of SCE’s public affairs projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities to include:

Plays a prominent role on the public affairs team, tasked with creating digital and social media strategies and campaigns using a suite of platforms for research, stakeholder engagement, and a combination of earned and paid content placement that support public affairs projects. Examples of this would include stakeholder research, monitoring and engagement on key infrastructure projects throughout SCE’s service territory and content strategies and development for stakeholder digital channels and SCE-owned apps. Support for major company policy issues, such as transportation electrification, clean energy, grid modernization, customer choice education and current regulatory and legislative issues.

 In collaboration with Corporate Communications, create and manage content optimized for digital and social media platforms and channels that engage intended stakeholder audiences; communicates messages and manages conversations using various digital and social media platforms - messaging would be focused on localized infrastructure projects and energy policy issues. An example of this would be looking at the construction impacts of a local infrastructure project as noted on various Facebook groups and providing relevant digital content to local stakeholders regarding the project.

Monitor digital and social channels for information that can inform on-going programs and projects. Conduct online research of key influencers. Determine key metrics and processes for measurement; analyze and report performance of digital and social media campaigns and identify stakeholder trends.

Advises and counsels project team counterparts on digital and social engagement campaigns, as well as community online activity. 

Utilizes the public affairs team network to gain insight into stakeholder perceptions and opinions on policy issues and projects, helps the team stay current with digital and social media trends and mobile tools, including text, and identifies and promotes continuous improvement ideas.

 Provides digital and social media monitoring and engagement during emergency situations and other incident activations that occur both during and after normal working hours as part of SCE’s emergency response procedures','!*!Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business, Political Science Education or related field.

Three years of experience working on digital or social media campaigns, digital/social/app content development and associated data analytics.

Three years of experience working in corporate or issues public relations, or public affairs.

Experience designing, implementing and measuring digital and social media campaigns for a variety of platforms; i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, You Tube, apps, mobile-optimized etc. for targeted stakeholder audiences.

Desired Qualifications:

5 years of experience working on digital or social media campaigns, digital/social/app content development and associated data analytics in a political, government or public affairs context.

5 years of experience working in corporate or issues public relations, or public affairs.

In-depth knowledge of digital and social media research and analytical tools including Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics and the ability to use pivot-tables to provide further insight.

Experience working with app developers and app and mobile-optimized content development and delivery.

In-depth knowledge of promoted social media strategies for Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube and paid digital campaigns for Google search, etc.

Understanding of how to use social media tools to effectively listen, communicate, and build relationships with targeted stakeholders.

Problem solver; self-starter; high degree of creativity to find new ways to reach and communicate to customers and stakeholders;

Excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong attention to detail.

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, and Hootsuite/Tweetdeck..

Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

Must demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

Master’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Education, Political Science or related field.

7 years of experience working on digital and social media campaigns, content development and analytics.

7 years of experience working in corporate or issues public relations, or public affairs.

Thorough understanding of the key factors driving social engagement and activation in a public affairs environment.

Knowledgeable about digital and social media trends and best practices in a public affairs environment.
