Location: CarelinkSchedule: 24 hours per week, 12 hour days, Saturday and Sunday: 7am-7pmEDUCATION:Required:High School Diploma or equivalent Medical terminology course completion or equivalent experience with medical terminology required.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required:BLS (CPR) - AHA Health Care Provider BLSPreferred:North Carolina Medical Responder.EMT or EMD certifications.APCO Basic Telecommunicator certifications.Public Safety experience preferred. (Police, Fire , EMS or 911 Center)JOB SUMMARYThe Communication Specialist facilitates communications regarding patient transfers, referral admissions and disseminates transport requests to the transport teams as appropriate as to allow for an immediate response to the patient. In addition facilitates physician-to-physician consultation, referrals and admissions for physicians seeking services from Moses Cone Health System. The Communicator serves as a primary point of contact for Moses Cone Health System and the secondary Market for referrals. The Communications Specialist will also be responsible for data entry for each incident into the Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD System), communicating with other departments of Moses Cone and surrounding hospitals, coordinating activities with area public safety agencies and 911 Communications Centers to assist with dispatch and transfer of patients.MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize various communications devices in various situations such as Computers, pagers, voice communications devices (Two-Way Radios) and situations such as Computers, pagers, voice communications devices (Two-Way Radios) (20%)Demonstrates clear and coherent communication skills with all persons throughout the secondary market and within the health system. Maintain ongoing communication with all transport units throughout the entire transport process. (20%)Performs data entry for patient referrals, physician consults, unit response times and other data collection and incorporates this information to improve the referral and dispatch process. (15%)Demonstrates the ability to receive, appropriately triage, and facilitate all incoming communications in an efficient manner. The communicator notifies the Charge Nurse of potential problems, real situations and delays of patient transport. (10%)Maintains accurate and complete follow-up information with referring and receiving physicians and facilities. (10%)Ensures completion of all patient charge information generated by CareLink and coordinates its timely entry into the billing interface. (10%)Contribute to the unit's departmental annual objectives as defined by the Director each year. (10%)Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
