POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist the Director of the Quality department with the coordination of the hospital wide quality assessment and improvement activities, which include but not limited to, Core Measures abstracting and compliance, regulatory readiness and compliance, education of staff regarding quality patient care, and medical staff quality preparedness and assistance to such. The Clinical Quality Management Specialist assists with planning, coordinating and organizing all aspects of the QA Program with the guidance of the Director to achieve the goals as outlined in the hospital QA Plan. The position requires knowledge of Medical and Surgical Quality Assessment and Improvement activities, medical terminology, Joint Commission and CMS standards for QA. Essential responsibilities include: the ability to retrieve, communicate, and present data in a professional verbal or written format. It also requires the ability to work with physicians and staff in an educational manner to increase adherence to the aforementioned standards. This includes, but is not limited to the involvement in inter-departmental meetings and Clinical Quality Council/Patient Safety meeting. The position is also responsible for reporting PI data in adherence to corporate, Joint Commission and CMS standards through the COMET and CHOIS systems. Additionally, this position will be involved in the development, implementation, and execution of nursing orientation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists the Director with the operations of the QRM Department and reports at least monthly as to the status of data reporting and progress in meeting goals and timeframes. Provides Medical Staff Committees with resource information pertaining to the peer review process and assists with the developing of care and quality indicators including medical staff clinical quality reports. Educates physicians and staff of QA standards and progress and assists them in meeting the regulations and standards as requested by Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, and AHCA, etc. Attends Medical Staff meetings, as requested, that pertain to the Peer Review process and completes OPPE and FPPE reports, which are incorporated into the re - credentialing process. Assists with outside agencies where QA issues are involved as assigned and takes minutes, creates agendas and organizes meetings with other departments when necessary. Assists to PRO reviews within requested timeframes and assists in preparing correspondence in response to QA inquiries. Assists in revising methodology for tracking review of physicians as requested by Committee or Department chairman and maintains all statistics related to QA. Stays current on any LMS courses that are required by the facility or state for licensure. Plans, develops, and implements both classroom and clinical training programs to enhance the quality movement at PCMC. Regularly assesses training program needs looking for areas of improvement and makes identified improvements to the program as indicated. Daily concurrent chart review, on the medical units, for data collection and identification of Core Measure improvement processes for medical and nursing staff educational needs. Organizing accumulated data into the Meditech and COMET systems, while using data as foundation for, no less than monthly, Core Measures team.
