Job Summary

This position will reside within the Division's CLIA laboratory. A strong math background and attention to detail are a must. Basic techniques that will be performed in this position include but are not limited to ELISA and sterile cell culture handling. The successful candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must have meticulous work habits, and be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple projects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Processes synovial fluid samples received into the laboratory and verify adequacy for testing

Possesses a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures and can reliably conduct all testing including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic analysis with increased independence

Performs a variety of complex reagent and sample preparation and analysis procedures

Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment and test methods

Enter test results into LIS and verify that results are being entered via the electronic instrument-LIS interface

Assist CD Diagnostics in a wide range of ongoing research projects

Aliquot samples and maintain sample inventories

Make buffers and carry out dilutions

Performs all testing according to SOPM and documents all required QC

Participates in and documents annual continuing education

Maintain quality assurance logs to document inadequate or missing specimens

Review and release all test results. Review questionable or critical results with technical supervisor

Work as a member of interdepartmental project teams

Expected Areas of Competence

Experience with many common laboratory tools, instruments and procedures such as pipetting, using a balance, centrifugation, using a pH meter, sterile technique, and safely handling common chemicals and reagents.

Proficient in making buffers, calculating concentrations and routinely performing dilutions

Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and lab safety.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.

Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.

Education/Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or other Life Science plus 3 years of relevant experience

Candidates with practical experience in laboratory experimentation are preferred

Knowledge of immunoassay development and diagnostic assays

ASCP or equivalent certification preferred
