Client Data Analytics SupervisorMarsh & McLennan Companies - Urbandale, IA
The Supervisor will oversee a team which supports the revenue process and the month-end close process properly reflects the revenue transactions through the operations of the firm’s financial systems, and will provide financial information to local and regional leadership.
Responsibilities include overseeing day to day accounting functions and processes as well as reporting of financial information. Preparation of account reconciliations, journal entries and provision of Balance Sheet analyses.
Responsible for accuracy, timeliness and the general integrity of the accounting function and related reports. Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management reports. Duties may also include the preparation of required regulatory reporting - Participates in and/or lead projects affecting the department and its processes.
Supervises accounting staff as required. Provides guidance, advice and support to direct reports to ensure issues are resolved and addressed appropriately in a timely fashion. Has authority to assign, direct and evaluate work, as well as train and provide general direction to professional staff.
Assists with the maintenance and improvement of the internal control environment including general adherence and knowledge of SOX controls, SSAE16, and external audit procedures, as applicable. Ensures daily management activities are conducted in compliance with internal and external control requirements. May ensure that Statutory Accounts are properly maintained and reconciled in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting “Policy” procedures (GAAP). Adheres to the accounting principles and practices and regulatory environment and ensures these principles and practices are applied in the daily work.
Responds to ad hoc requests for financial information as well as operational analysis using various reporting tools as consistent with a Global business leader.
Provide reports and analysis in Excel outlining Work in Progress (WIP) Disposition, fee adjustments, Invoice status to Market and Business Leaders.
Communicate with local Market Leader on the month-end closing process, providing information on status of process.
Communicate with leadership on specific client-related issues regarding things such as WIP Disposition, fee adjustments, Invoice status, revenue recognition, client hierarchy.
Ensure that issues identified in the month-end closing process are documented, tracked, and resolved by working with leadership to bill and collect full value of work performed.
Train employees on Mercer Financial Systems by utilizing existing PowerPoint slides, tweaking them for each client and conduct training via live demonstrations, in person, MeetingPlace, or NetMeeting.
Liaise with Business Managers/Consultants in setting up time-based client, account, program and project codes.
Liaise with Business Managers/Consultants in setting up commission policies on commission clients, as well as assisting in forecasting, tracking, and reconciling commissions.
Participate in monthly user and break/fix testing of new initiatives and system issues, especially in regards to enhancements to internal accounting software and/or reporting.
Perform audit requests and provide all of the documentation for the audit personnel and are there to provide explanation of local office process and any issues found.
Qualifications Education (degree / diploma)
Requires 4 year university degree in accounting or finance or equivalent in experience
4 to 7 years of experience with at least one year of supervisory experience
Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
Advanced knowledge/skill with Microsoft Excel including charts, formulas and pivot tables. Strong communication/organization/multi-tasking skills
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial data and understand the related business implications
Prior experience with WIP or time and materials billing is preferred
Other requirements (licenses, certifications, specialized training)
Knowledge of Oracle Financials or other similar enterprise systems. Qualified Accountant (CPA) or MBA a plus
Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills
Positive attitude and an ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment
Outstanding customer service orientation with ability to multi task, balance competing deadlines and work directly with business leaders responsible for the P&L
