Clerk, File II-Data Entry','8156','SUMMARY Provide data entry support to designated department or individual. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Check, analyze, and classify or alphabetize materials, conducting limited research when necessary. - Read incoming material, verifies accuracy, and sorts and codes according to file system. - Store material in paper form, or enters information into computerized storage system. - Maintain computer database. - Retrieve materials for qualified personnel upon request. - Search for and investigates information contained in files, inserts additional data on file records, completes reports, and keeps files current. - Dispose of obsolete files in accordance with established retention schedule or legal requirements. - Scan materials or copies records, and examine materials for legibility. - Type labels or reports. - Implement changes to the filing system when directed to do so. - May receive, classify, and route incoming mail. - May microfiche records. - Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, office practices and procedures, and departmental rules and regulations. - All other duties as assigned. Must have a minimum of one to three months related experience and/or training. - Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to request clarification when needed. - Ability to maintain established records and files. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co- workers and employees and officials in other departments. - Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. - Type accurately at a speed of at least 35 wpm and/or to operate a calculator by touch.
