Chevron Global Manufacturing is accepting online applications for the position of Civil Engineer located in Richmond, CA California through June 28, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Overview:

Chevrons Richmond, CA refinery has been in operation for over 100 years. It is a refinery of high complexity processing approximately 240,000 barrels of crude oil per day. It is located on San Francisco Bay, north east of the city of San Francisco.

The position Civil Engineer, will be responsible for significant, broad civil/structural engineering services and is expected to enable reliable performance of the facilitys infrastructure.

Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

- Independently evaluate and develop innovative solutions for difficult civil/structural problems and inquiries that arise within daily operations, turnarounds (planned and unplanned), and capital projects. Work may involve conducting structural modification feasibility studies, structural integrity assessment, structure/piping/foundation assessment and mitigation, concrete/steel repairs, addressing crane lift issues, start-up issues such as vibrations/fit-up/settlement, and interpretation of geotechnical reports.

- Preparing and/or approving stamped civil/structural calculations, drawings and statements of special inspection for City of Richmond building permits.

- Writing communication to Chevron senior management pursuant to governmental regulations as to the seismic suitability of refinery process equipment and structures.

- Mentoring other civil/structural engineers in analysis and design and at times approving engineering work packages prepared by junior civil/structural engineers.

- Providing advice to the Designs Engineering Department and Maintenance workers in the field regarding civil/structural projects including problems arising from construction deficiencies.

- Representing the companys perspective in capital project decisions, preparing/approving project civil/structural design criteria and performing technical/peer reviews of engineering contractors work.

- Developing and managing civil engineering work to improve reliability, safety, and throughput of process units.

Required Qualifications to meet Job Responsibilities

- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.

- 10 years of civil engineering experience.

- Current registered Professional Civil Engineer in California. Engineer will be required to prepare and stamp civil engineering calculations and drawings and obtain building permits.

- Demonstrated experience in using structural analysis computer programs.

- Proven ability in steel design, concrete design, pile and soil supported foundation design, seismic design, and structural analysis.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to express ideas to a wide range of groups within the refinery (including interface with Operators, Mechanics, Supervisors, Construction Contractors and Management).

- Possesses and maintains knowledge of codes for building materials and design including but not limited to the 2016 California Building Code, American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 7-10, American Concrete Institute ACI 318-14, and American Iron and Steel Institute 360-10.

- Proficient in producing engineering drawings using AutoCAD

- Ability to collaboratively work on a team and with colleagues to solve challenging problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Masters Degree in Civil Engineering.

- 10 years of civil engineering experience in a refinery or similar industry.

- Demonstrated knowledge of cost and scheduling controls.

- A basic knowledge of refinery/chemical/process/equipment and the understanding of the interaction between refinery units.

- Geotechnical engineering (soils inspection/testing experience) and site development including drainage.

- Steel detailing experience and concrete reinforcing steel detailing experience.

- Experience in the design of roads, storm drainage, rigging and earth retaining structures.

- Surveying experience.

- Proven well-rounded perspective and ability to prioritize work gained from experience in such positions as a supervisor, project manager or project engineer.

- Possesses and maintains knowledge of the requirements of the California Accidental Release Prevention Program (CALARP).

- Knowledge of the Chevron Engineering Standards.

Relocation Options: Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
