Citrix Systems Engineer

The Citrix Engineer will be responsible for the overall direction, design, enhancement, maintenance, and operational support of the Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environment. This includes analysis, planning, development, and implementation of new features and enhancements based on the service levels and business requirements of the organization. The Citrix Engineer will provide technical support, troubleshoot problem and perform scripting/programming to ensure stable and efficient operation of technology solutions.


Ensures optimal performance and capacity management for the Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environment.

Ensures optimal performance and efficiency of all system components by proactively conducting ongoing performance monitoring and by automating repetitive tasks.

Ensure service performance meets or exceeds business expectations and is delivered in accordance with SLAs.

Provides effective Level II Citrix related Service Desk support on a 24/7 basis by researching/analyzing issues/requests to determine server (hardware and software)/application related implications, effectively communicating with all impacted parties and by troubleshooting and resolving issues with a sense of urgency to minimize any system downtime.

Create Knowledge Base articles of operational tasks to streamline support and empower first level support to resolve issues on a first call basis.

Acts as a technical lead for implementation of new projects and ensures optimal server configurations. Participates in creation of optimal system architecture in support of new designs and features. Researches and recommends hardware/software technologies in support of application requirements.

Assists in the development of the Systems Administrator I & II by providing guidance and direction of Citrix and Server Administration best practices.

Effectively maintains all Citrix, and related, components by performing maintenance patching and application upgrades (including operating system and various applications) as needed.

Enhances functionality of systems by developing and modifying scripts to automate system processes.

Provides support to application developers/programmers by providing technical knowledge and guidance.

Ensures server security integrity by reviewing and implementing server policies within the system.


High School Diploma or GED required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science plus 10 years of Server, and 7 – 10 years of Citrix Administration experience; or equivalent combination of education or experience preferred.


Expert in management and administration on all versions of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop and strong experience with Citrix Storefront/Netscaler Gateway/Netscaler Load Balancing)

Strong knowledge in design, implementation and troubleshooting of Citrix XenApp (Windows 2008 R2, 2012 R2 and 2016) and XenDesktop (Windows 7 and 10)

Application management, publishing, packaging, virtualization and streaming.

Proficiency with PowerShell

Advanced scripting and automation skills

Printer Management in a Citrix environment

Citrix Patch Management and policies configuration

Citrix Director, Studio, Storefront, Provisioning Server, Netscaler, Windows Active Directory Administration, including GPO management

Experience on managing a Citrix farm on VMWare will be added advantage

Experience with Appsense manager is a plus

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Demonstrated ability to work in teams with a collaborative interpersonal style.

Good verbal and written communications skills with the ability to effectively document procedures.

Ability to work weekends and after business hours.


Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

Must have the ability to position self to maintain computers and various network equipment in the buildings, including under desks, in the server rooms, and anywhere cabling installation and maintenance would be required for troubleshooting and optimal organizational connectivity and usage.

Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to perceive and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.

Detect and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; converse in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds
