The Union Carbide Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, has an opportunity for a Chemical Process Operator at our South Charleston, West Virginia, Triton plant.   Job Summary:  This job is responsible for operating equipment in an automated manufacturing environment where chemicals are being produced. Our Operators utilize chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot the plant in a safe and efficient manner. Employee engagement and commitment to Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) improvements is critical to the success of the site.  Responsibilities:  Utilize chemical manufacturing knowledge and experience to operate and troubleshoot technical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.Respond to system messages.Perform minor maintenance tasks as required to keep processes operating.Understand the key process variables which impact product quality and consistency and understand how to control and troubleshoot them.Participate in all safety programs and required training; demonstrate behaviors with a clear safety focus for all employees and the community; engage in all plant initiatives, identify near miss incidents.Serve on emergency/fire squad.Ensure compliance with all procedures, whether standard operating or safety aligned.Operate with an owner's mindset.Develop a culture of empowerment- meaning working within the boundaries' established through the work processes and technology that we operate at the site. QualificationsRequired Qualifications:  History of education or work activity that demonstrates an interest in chemistry, automation, and production methods.Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment where individuals often set priorities and complete work activities with minimal supervision.Strong written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.Mechanically adept and able to apply fundamentals of physical chemistry to properly operate, maintain and improve the performance of the equipment within their area of responsibility.Basic computer knowledge, including previous experience using Microsoft applications.Have a current, valid US driver's license Willing and able to work 12 hour, rotating shiftsStrong Interpersonal, Facilitative, and Organizational skills. Effectively interacts with multiple functions and diverse individuals to achieve goals. Demonstrates excellent decision making skills, ability to prioritize appropriately. Effectively manages multiple competing priorities. Strong troubleshooting skills. Able to communicate with a very diverse population which is spread across the site.Strong reading comprehension and listening skills.Strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.Able to work with independently with minimal supervision with in an empowered team environment.Strong work ethic.Have a high regard for personal safety and the safety of othersA minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.Frequent bending, reaching, and liftingStand 50% of the time.Walk for extended periods of timeWork at heights, climb stairs and ladders.Work in tight and closed in spaces.Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to goggles, steel-toed shoes, etc.Willing and able to wear and use respirators.Our safety equipment has weight restrictions.
