The Center Store Sales

Consultant is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating

activities within the assigned sales territory to ensure that we continue to

grow sales both for our stores and with our independent customers. This

individual will cover Grocery, Frozen, Dairy, and General Merchandise

categories for customers in the Green Bay, WI area and make a significant

contribution to the sales and profits of the division and the company.


Job Responsibilities and


Assist sales leadership in

conducting annual business reviews with assigned accounts (e.g., fee and

service results, product and service opportunities, performance against

plan, and other key account issues or concerns).

Establish department-specific

sales plans for accounts within the prescribed territory to achieve

financial goals for each assigned department.

Sell SUPERVALU as a solution

for retail needs.  Identify, implement, and monitor SUPERVALU

offerings to support customer goals.

Establish a full understanding

of the strategies, tactics, and programs offered by the region and

implement those programs and concepts with retailers.

Share best practices to assist

retailers in positioning themselves in the market and competing

effectively.  Understand the specific markets in which retailers

compete, and adapt programs and plans to the marketplace to ensure

retailer success.

Work with retailers, Logistics,

and Merchandising to achieve operational expense goals and facilitate

efficient delivery.

Develop and sustain strong

working relationships and a presence as a valued consultant with assigned

retail owners and department managers.

Identify customer needs,

interests, and concerns, and develop plans to address them.

Understand and utilize retail

financial tools (e.g., screening process, pro-forma, financial analysis,

P&L statements) to ensure customer retail success.


Job Requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree in marketing,

category management, or business preferred.

Strong grocery background

preferred.  Center store experience from a grocery store setting


3-5 years of experience in the

following areas preferred:

Working with supported food

industry departments and products.

Selling in or to a food

operation, including retail, food service, restaurant, or manufacturing


Addressing customer

needs/concerns, solving customer problems, or otherwise providing

customer support.

Exposure to business metrics

such as sales, expense control, and/or profitability.

Basic computer skills and

understanding of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and


Basic accounting and analytical

skills.  Good organizational skills and attention to detail. 

Strong communication skills

both verbal and written, as well as the ability to make effective

presentations before groups.  Ability to deal effectively with a wide

variety of people both in person and over the telephone.

Ability to travel required.
