The Nest Camera team architects, designs, develops, and validates best in class camera subsystems for delivery to the market in Nest products. Our camera design engineers take full responsibility for the design and specification of these cameras.

The work:

Manage Nest’s small but capable camera engineering team, which is responsible for the architecture, design, and validation of the imaging sub-system in Nest’s camera products.

Develop technology, personnel, and vendor roadmaps to ensure Nest’s long term leadership in the field of surveillance cameras

Lead discussions with product management and other cross functional teams about how to best use current and future imaging technologies to deliver high value experiences to our customers

Develop and support the engineers on the team

The team designs Nest’s future cameras by owning sensor selection, lens specifications, module architecture, and camera system level design

The team works with all cross-functional teams (software, product design, industrial design, program management, operations, finance, etc.) to deliver a successful product to market

The team manages camera vendors, including sensor, lens, and module manufacturers

The team validates their designs: component and system level validation, ensuring highest level image quality standards

The team brings the designs to mass production by setting factory test requirements, assists in software bring up, and travels on-site to the manufacturer to ensure the design is built and tested successfully

Minimum requirements:

BS MS in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or related)

10 years of practical camera engineering experience

Preferred requirements:

3 or more years direct management experience

Proven experience architecting and developing high volume cameras

Strong engineering fundamentals

CMOS image sensor experience including interfacing and tuning

Optics design and experience with stray light analysis

Image quality evaluation including test charts, algorithms, and lighting

Familiarity with digital imaging pipeline, image quality and algorithms (AE, AWB, etc)

Mechanical design and tolerance analysis of highly constrained, high-volume designs

Documentation of camera-specific design, test, and manufacturing requirements

Develop new test equipment and procedures for camera module validation and production test

Hands­-on experience in prototype bring-­up and debugging, functional verification and manufacturing support

Mandarin language skills a plus

Ability and willingness to travel internationally, up to 20%
